I didn't want to read 90+ pages to find out if anyone else asked, but did anyone read the comic that came with this? I read the comic first before checking out the figure and accessories, and after reading I was hoping that the extra head would be the same one he had at the end of the comic, where Prominon gave him a new helmet (off a fallen Ironhide looking character IIRC), which made gave him the G1 looking head sculpt. I thought that was pretty cool! I would love that extra head in that sculpt...

 

The comic artists tend to do their own thing with the characters, they get given free reign provided the toy design itself is at least represented. Nothing in the comics is going to be guaranteed to be explicitly representative of the toys and how they will look or what they will come with or be able to do.

So no, zero plans for any g1 heads at this time.

 

Plus a G1 head would look out of place with the design. The IDW aesthetic is really stylized.

 

It would've been nice, but oh well, it's still a great figure. I got the other two variants as well.

Check out the comic that came with the figure, the GI helmet looks pretty good with the IDW body design. I'll try to upload a pic.

So, any firm release date for Calidus Luminus yet?

 

Is the cloak an actual thing in the comics? (A one panel appearance doesn't really count in my eyes).

 

No. I just figured out that this is a listing to purchase a "version 2" of the cloak in grey. A black version came with copies of R-32 Stray purchased from PSX.

It's been a year since his release and I'm still happy with him. Can't get over that the SXS one has a really busty chest, almost as if that mold would suit the gender bending for Override.

I did just buy the v2 grey cloak, and it's exactly the same as the v1, just in a different color.

Edit: I recently acquired Boreas and saw a repaint potential (drawn exactly with the same shape) of Getaway in the packaged comic.

 

HA! So did I! Got them from Taobaoring. The cloak looks fantastic on Aero Alpha.

 

Is it wrong that I prefer Reformatted R-27L Calidus Luminous over the regular Calidus (Hot Rod)? I have Shadow Ghost, and I never opened him. Part of me keeps me from doing so as I don't want to devalue it. Then again, it's a 3P release, so value may not be much of an issue? Anyway, I've been going back and forth with either Calidus or the Luminous reissue with the different exhaust tips and black tires instead of the earlier releases purple. Luminous' blues, purples, and that clear orange canopy seems to make this mold pop more for me than the regular Calidus. I already have Shadow Ghost, and I don't want a ton of this mold either. Is it really worth getting standard Calidus even though I already have Shadow Ghost and just paid for the new Luminous release?

 

Honestly, it depends how much you want a Rodimus in his original color scheme. I agree that Luminus is phenomenal, and imo, the best use of this mold.

I'd recommend the original if you're willing to mod the spikes, and I'd totally recommend the toyhax sickers for him. The detailing they added for the abs section and chest look fantastic, and help break up the reds.

 

Managed to give him an ab crunch, like him a lot more now, still want to get a bit more clearance for his ankles though.
