I love this fandom´s use of hyperbole.

Agreed, the worst is over now, they just need to never let that hack write Transformers again.

For its faults, it was a good finale. Or the best we can expect with the rapid closure for the reboot. Roberts' cynicism being on full display. but there's one more thing that resonates.

Swerve mentions Nautica's book having "One glaring omission.."

Swerve is the only one who remembers Rung...

...All I can say now is IDW better use Alex's cover for the final TPB.

It's my impression that the new universe is supposed to be a hard reboot so what you're suggesting would basically defeat the point of the reboot since it'd be adding old continuity to what is supposed to be a fresh start that is completely approachable by new readers.

Wow - I feel almost the complete reverse of this. For me, the final pages/duplicate crew was a hellish (or rather, purgatorial) concept - exploring the universe *forever*? It actually frightens me - partly because it reminds me of the first episode of the last series of Black Mirror, where the crew of a starship that exists in virtual reality are confined to an endless existence playing out various space opera adventures.

Life is nothing without goals, changes, tensions, end points. So in contrast, I was reassured by the fact that the in-universe characters still had their struggles, gains and losses. That seems to me more like life going on.

    Not necessarily. If handled correctly.

Don't forget Roberts' tendencies to play with time lines, so wherever the ship is dictated by "WHEN" they are where they are.. they're still displaced far enough away in time from the "current" period of what the new universe is going to be. Lost Light is playing "Quantum Leap" meets Star Trek "Mirror, Mirror" so should they cross paths with the "new" universe copies of themselves, it'll only be by random chance seeing as they set out to explore the unknown, rather than tread back to Cybertron or Earth staying far enough out of the way.

I’m truly devastated about Megatron, first off. Fuck Prowl, even in the end. :lol

    (Insert John Goodman’s narration)

Lost Light/MTMTE is one of Transformers’ great success stories. It’s unlikely that something as wonderful, magnificent, and lovable as this ridiculous seven year story will ever pass this way again. From the shore leave at Hedonia, to Rewind’s message, to the climactic confrontation on Necroworld, to Anode and Lug owning who they are, to how the gang achieved something in the end.

In the future I will absolutely tell stories to my own children of one of the greatest Transformers stories. I’ll think back to a time when the crew of the Lost Light proved to be More Than Meets The Eye.

At the end of the "victory lap" trip, when they quantum jumped back to Functionist Cybertron, the ship split in two again. One version of the ship was transported into another universe for them to have new adventures, whilst the other version of the ship arrived "on course" back at Functionist Cybertron in the normal universe, where they had their last drink at Swerve's, said their goodbyes, and eventually came back together years later for Ratchet's funeral.

Wow, two readings two complete opposite understandings. That is worth some time to think about by itself. Art right?
I think your reading actually agrees with me to a point: the duplicate crew is about the journey alone. That is not satisfying to me either, though I don't think of it as hellish. I do think of it as a waste of time. Maybe that is why I was a little unsatisfied with the happily ever after attempt.
I think he is also trying to say that together = happy, but he doesn't show that anywhere outside of the romance relationships, so I don't know what to do with that.

We could dig down into this a little deeper, but I do not get the sense that Roberts is functioning on a deeper level here. I think it was just him saying "the characters as we know them live on as is."

Hard, hard, disagree. I found myself rereading MTMTE #1 last night while watching election results come in, and the first encounter between those two is instructive here. The one character took a huge chance on the other that was not necessary and was largely spur of the moment, and that other character's life changed in massive, impossible, positive ways as a consequence. That little moment of vulnerability was earned, IMO.

One thing that just brought this difference home for me: Could you imagine what the DJD’s introduction would have been like if it had been Lawrence drawing it instead of Milne?!

It’s also pretty clear to me that

    Optimus is toast

As there’s no logical in story reason for the characters to not reference him, particularly when it comes to his absence when

Megatron is facing his final sentencing.

Or it’s just something that Roberts avoided because it would be narratively inconvenient for him, which to be fair has happened before.

Thank you JR! That was a bittersweet ending. I wish I had more to add but it felt good to have a finality to the characters and the series.

And yeah, my favorite part was the return of the Rodimus star.

Oh man, this is probably the most polarizing point of the book - I bet. It was right up there with Cyclonus smooching Rodimus for me in terms of “whatevvvvver”.

    Ratchets starry eyed gaze +
Rodimus’ “hold on to him, he’s a catch” was all sorts of bull to me.

I can see Ratchet/Drift as conjunx endura - I can’t see Ratchet speaking in such a terrible, cliche-spouting way. Clearly this is an area where others see differently though.

I can’t speak for Thundemania but I interpreted that less as vomiting re: LL the series and more at the Uber cheesy last line of the post he was replying to.
