I mean, even if they didn't have it, they wouldn't really fit in with the old Classics. The aethstetic is just too different; Classics Optimus wouldn't really look great next to Siege Megatron, even if it was cleaned up.

If they got rid of all that, then it wouldn't be War For Cybertron.

The point I was trying to get across was, Siege should of been a separate toyline from generations. these base molds are screaming to be remolded into earth modes.

if you were to give siege optimus an earth truck, take off the battle damage, it would of replaced classics optimus prime. the mold is so close to being exactly what we needed, but the siege style held it back.

of all the figures shown off in siege, if they had earth modes,no greeble, and no battle damage they would of been worthly replacements of every single classics/generations versions of the characters that have been made before.

the war for cybertron concept is what is holding this toyline back and its a shame. We almost had the definitive optimus, megatron, soundwave, and starscream for classics/generations.

Yes. It's bad. All it does is make them look more inconsistent with every past toy and every future toy once they decide to stop doing it. Even within the line it's not even consistent. Flywheels, Reflector, Cog, and Sixgun don't have battle damage.

I'll definitely be buying alcohol to remove it.

I was not actually immediately against it - a bit of dry brushing here and there I was OK with. However, the way it has been executed is...well, I do think it looks pretty terrible, and I will likely skip over a lot of this line in hopes that these molds get refreshed or re-released without it.

At least it's just paint, instead of all kinds of dents and holes.

No, they did the battle Damage right this time. In the past, I'd agree with you because it was inappropriate or super dark blotches.

    Inappropriate, rare expensive figure
    op-1.jpg
    Super dark and always visible
    tfan_opm01.jpg

But here we have in most cases precise wear added and in silver. Its not super noticable all the time, but it adds flavor.
And these guys are at war....all the time so it makes sense.

    Perfection

Hasbro is not being stupid here. Actually they're being very smart.

The molds we're not likely to see again of unique characters - Cog, Flywheels (Skytread), Sixgun, Reflector, Shockwave's Voyager robot - are going very light on the battle damage. It's unlikely Hasbro will do a release of these past their initial run.

Then there are molds which are almost certainly going to be re-released in "clean" forms, probably repeatedly. For that we have Optimus Prime (which is clearly the replacement for the 12 year old Classics Mold), Megatron (who gets the best dedicated Voyager he's ever had), Soundwave, and Ironhide. They all have substantial damage. The first three are probably going to be re-released every other year for the next 10 years in one form or another. Except chrome versions. Except off-color crazy versions. Expect everything the Classics Optimus Mold got, all over again. For Ironhide, I'd be stunned if there wasn't a "clean" G1 Box Set at some point of like 4 deluxes. Maybe SDCC or an online exclusive (like the 1968 movie set of Generation figures, part of Platinum).

Hasbro has kind of done the past few years backwards in a sense. They did "updated forms" and IDW designs through T30. Starting with CW, and especially TR they started to hew very close to classic designs. But they did combiners and obscure characters first, followed by most of the 1986, 1987 and 1988 characters in one form or another (remember: Ultra Magnus was a CW figure). 1984 vehicle characters mostly got repaints/redecos and more obscure characters.

Only now at the end are we back to 1984 characters. Siege is the first time in about a decade some of these characters are getting dedicated molds. These strike me as "evergreen" molds in a sense, that they'll use over and over again to represent the most iconic cast.

So yes, expect clean molds of most of what you want.

You know what would be worse?

Painted battle damage hidden under POTP-style stickers. So even if you remove the crappy stickers, you're still screwed.

People on boards being vocal about how awful the stickers were is how we're rid of them next year. It's a necessary evil, unless you actually like half-done weathering slapped on everything in random spots.

Guess what, i like the battle damage and to an extent liked the vintage look of the stickers ( They sucked ass tho Not gonna lie here). People here need to Stop speaking for everyone. When Titans Return dropped there was the same going on with characters being turned into headmasters when in reality not many people minded that.

Hm just realized I can headcanon this into "Optimus Prime but he's really depressed and hasn't had a shower in a while and Bumblebee's trying to say something but is worried it might do more harm than good and oh shit, Optimus is playing Fortnite in his robe again fuck" and I've decided battle damage is good now.

Nobody liked the stickers, though, a lot of people actually like the weathering effects.

Besides, I think raising the MSRP of Generations to Studio Series levels is what allowed Hasbro to ditch the stickers more than just fan feedback.

Lots of 'absolutes' flying around in here.

I enjoy all the detailing. I also enjoy the battle damage apps. This is the mainline I've always wanted but didn't know I did until it was shown.

The only 'absolute' here is what it means to each collector. Saying the line is bad, that the detailing is ugly or the battle damage is unnecessary is purely subjective. Stop speaking for your fellow collectors.

I remember Warden saying the stickers were actually costing them more than tampos would've, which is ridiculous and hard to believe in its own right.

I can see that, though...the sticker material, the printing, the machine (or at least, the manpower to program it) to apply the stickers would have to be more in the long run than a stamping machine.

I'm glad it's much less extensive on most of the Siege toys I actually want which means it's easier to remove, but I still think it looks like dooky from a butt. I'd rather they were all clean and sparkly out of the box, leave the weathering to people who want their TFs to look like that, it's just drybrushing y'all, anyone can do it.

I'm very willing to bet that they'll eventually release clean decos of the battle damaged versions. I'm getting a bit of a Movie 1/Premium vibe in how I envision them handling this.

I'm not crazy about the idea, but from what I've seen, I can live with it while mixing them up with my previous figures without feeling the need to mod them off. I'm willing to bet Reprolabels might have some choice stuff that might cover some of those areas anyway, like Optimus' thighs.

I really like the marketing of this line, and how they describe it as the last day in the fight for Cybertron. Really imaginative and evocative stuff. If this really is the last day of a millennia long battle, then everyone should be pretty worn down and beat-up to shit.
