WFC Siege Weathering paint apps: State your vote and opinion on it.

I know this is prior to actually having the toys in hand, but how do you feel about these paint apps now
and do you think the final production figures might change your mind on your current feeling?

Personally, I think this look, will be great on the majority of these Siege figures.
They've got this rich amount of sculpt relief detail and the weathering paint apps will highlight those details
nicely. I think it'll look nice in person when you handle the toy with the light hitting it from all sorts of different angles.

Looks good. It's distinctive and adds character given we've had years of "clean" characters. Also notable is how certain molds have it hugely downplayed or lacking entirely.

And I think that's the rub here. We're going to get both. Molds which may only see one release in the near term, or ever, such as Leader Class Shockwave and Flywheels are having little to no weathering. Molds that are just new forms of "core" characters are getting weathering, because we have "clean" releases of those characters. Molds which we'll probably see reissued many times are getting the weathering especially. Thinking Optimus Prime particularly here. That mold is clearly a replacement for the Classics Mold. Megatron too.

I'd be stunned if, within the next three years, both Optimus and Megatron haven't been rereleased in at least one 'clean" form as some sort of special boxed set, or tie in. 35th Anniversary or something.

There's method to it all. We just have to be patient.

I liked it more on the initial Autobot reveals...they appear to have neutered it on the production versions. If you're going to weather something, do it right or don't do it at all. I'll have to see them first hand to decide how much I like it.

There should be a don't care option. Honestly the weathering doesn't do anything for me. I don't hate it. I don't love it. Its just what it is.

Normally i would like nice glossy paint on them.
But maybe this paint job just work and they will be awesome.
It's something new to me having figures with this kind of paint jobs.

That's what the 'undecided' option is here for.

I will likely buy almost all the seige figures. They are incredible one of my most hyped line in a while
But...... the weathering will probably be removed from the figure.
It should have been an all or nothing decision. All the way make them weathered to the core and drybrushed or have none
Yeah I’d rather have it gone but who knows maybe I’ll keep it

I'm under "Want to see it in my hands before I make a final decision, because some photos make the weathering apps look good, while other pics make them look terrible", but I didn't see that option.

    Either that, or "case-by-case basis".

Nah. ‘Undecided’ and ‘don’t care’ aren’t the same. Undecided is like you’re not sure how you feel about it. Don’t care is like, well ya don’t care, the weathering is there wether you like it or not so why complain. Totally different.

Anyway, I think the weathering looks great. These are giant robotic organisms that have been fighting a million year old war. Surely they would have damage and scrapes to their chasis. I also have a love for generics (Cog and Brunt) and Cybertronian modes, (literally this entire line) so I wouldn’t care either way. But I take it as a bonus.

I love the idea of adding weathering effects to these figures because of how much personality is added to them. While some of these paint apps may look bad at the moment, I’m willing to wait until I have a figure in hand before I judge it. Besides, atleast as far as I know, this is HasTak’s first time applying weathering effects to a whole line of mainline TF figures so while they may look bad now, I believe that HasTak have the capability to improve.

I love it because it differentiates the figures from the billions of the same character I already have. Optimus is pretty much the same in bot mode (but look! Space Trukk!) so Hasbro are making an effort to entice me. In fact it seems to me that the characters who have been released most recently have the most paint, ie, Optimus/Soundwave etc. Flywheels who hasn't had a release... ever since G1 seems to only have a smattering?

Feel free to shoot down my theory, it's only from cursory observation.

I hate it. I want the figures to look clean and shiny. Even if the weathering was on par with the look of what some pro customers can do, I just don't like that look. I can appreciate how well some people can paint weathering, but it's not my cup of tea.

Flywheels seems to have a bit of weathering on the sides of his tank. Look near the tank treads.

That would be the smattering he mentioned.

They purposely put stickers on the previous line to condition you to be head over heels on the next line's thing, a.k.a anything but stickers, a.k.a. sure weathered paint apps to make your toy look like it's been run over by a car? Sweet! :p

    I appreciate that they are painting these figures more;
I’m just not a fan of these applications.

Honestly, the weathering doesn't look as bad in person as it does in pictures.

I saw some production samples whilst at MCM London over the weekend and it looked especially nice on the deluxes and prime, Megatron not so much but that was because it was silver paint splatter on top of silver plastic
