And this is all still moot to my original point, which is these supposed leader classes don't have half the amount of materials of any leader class toys before Thrilling 30 Jetfire. now you could use this excuse that they do more with less, and I wouldn't really argue with you because my problems with these figures on that front are completely subjective, but the truth is these aren't leaders. they can call em leaders, they can even make them the height of leaders(sometimes) but you are getting so much less for your money than you did back than that it's just painful to see.

Okay, I'm with that. Any pictures of the new Ironhide next to Siege Optimus anywhere?

Whatever price point they may be I’m so glad to see the back of electronics in leader class figures. I’m pumped for Shockwave and will happily pay the retail price. If you’re not going to bother using the armor at all then I could see why it would bug you but they aren’t going to release it as a stand-alone Voyager so it’s either this or drop $18 for the Cyber Battalion figure then another $15 or so in shapeways upgrades to bring it up to an Energon level articulation standard.

I dig the armor, it looks like something Shockwave would rig up for himself so it works for me. I probably won’t display him armored up but the pieces themselves make a neat drone unit as a companion piece.

universe 2.0 Onslaught was a SPECTACULAR Transformer, aside from the obvious MASSIVE caveat of not being combiners, he and Silverbolt were miles better then the Combiner Wars versions.

    Could not agree more.

Tank mode was a BEAST. I was stunned how great he looked. But like you said, if only he was a combiner then he'd be perfect.

Loved the riot shield, the cowcatchers/mine sweepers (or whatever they're called) that wind up on his shoulders.

is he smaller then TR/POTP Leaders? not sure i've seen anything that lead me to believe one way or the other (not that it would surprise me) i thought he might be a tad shorter, but he seems very bulky.

i'm curious in what ways you think so? Onslaught in particular i thought was a really poor attempt being a pretty lame remold of Hot Spot (who i love): they just didn't do nearly enough work on Onslaught IMHO to make him look right. The Firetruck going backwards Combat Truck mode was pretty lame and he really, really needed new cannons instead of repurposing Hot Spots.

Silverbolt i think is closer of a wash, since honestly they really aren't that different, but i preferred the design of the jet mode better on Uni 2.0

but again, not being Combiners is a huge knock against them.
(but at the time those came out that never seemed like a serious possibility)

Honestly when it comes to the undercarriage kibble I feel CW Silverbolt has the excuse of having it because not only does he need to be a robot and jet but also a combiner torso so certain sacrifices had to be made to make all three work the best they can. Universe Silverbolt somehow couldn't find a way to make the kibble not as egregious which was likely due to toy design at the time but still.

As for CW Onslaught he's not one of the worst attempts at retooling/repurposing a figure as someone else. Believe me that honor belongs to SS Crankcase since we actually have the right mold to use it for him and for some odd reason they've decided to use the wrong version of the mold.

I think it is indeed a sort of style preference thing.
I look at it as a matter of designs being G1 evocative / true to G1 designs ( or G1-slavish as some call it), expressed in a percentage.

(roughly speaking...because each line has a few exception cases)
    - Universe 1.0 / 2.0: ranging from 45% - 65%

    - Post-Thrilling 30's lines: ranging from 65% - 95%

I happen to be in the camp who prefer the latter.

the old generations mold looked like a bodybuilder on steroids very bulky

that totally makes sense, I'm more in the camp of preferring CHUGs as "Modern Updates" instead of "Slavish Recreations"... except when i don't :p

(although, ironically, Universe 2.0 Silverbolt was probably the first one that was closer to a "Slavish Recreation")

Yes, Silverbolt is one of those exception cases. He's sort of an 'evergreen' design.

With Magnus not being much taller than the new Optimus it gives the impression leaders are not very big despite some girth. From my understanding the new OP is slightly short for a voyager anyway so Magnus must not be normal (tr-potp) height.

At least Star Saber should look the part.

Why do you keep talking about Star saber like he’s been confirmed?

It has a handle. What, it bothers you that you as an adult, can't hold it comfortably in your hands and play with it like a child would? Nah, I think I'm going to keep calling you out on skipping a figure over a minor detail like that. It deserves the "point and laugh" treatment.

Well, that's an opinion, and you're certainly entitled to that. So it's "what you see as a benefit" not what is objectively a benefit. Hell, let's not even pretend it's a popular opinion.
