(mods please read this before taking the post down)

YouTuber JohnnyFlash has taken the Save FoC petition for his own personal gain, if the source code for FoC gets released, the petition states that it will go to him and him alone, and with the lack of licensing ownership, he can mod the game slightly and resell the game for a full $60 price tag, please read the image attached.

For Privacy sake, I won't name who sent me this

This is blackmail in nearly every way possible, please do not sign the petition and do not support this scum YouTuber.

Spread the word, don't let him take and ruin a game loved by many.

    1. There is no "blackmail" here.
    2. I can't find any reliable sources that say that the High Moon games' source code is destined for deletion.
    3. Online petitions are worthless. This petition is especially pointless. There is zero chance that Hasbro would allow their valuable intellectual property to be controlled by some guy that posts on YouTube, let alone the public.

    Edited to Add:
    4. One may be able to deduce the source of the messages you posted through simple process of elimination....

Yep. It's like getting upset that Joe Schmo on the corner has a petition to become the new owner of Burger King.

    10. Keep Off-Site Drama Off This Site
If you had a disagreement or falling out with someone on another site or in real life, if you had a deal go sour on another website or whatever. If it happened elsewhere then don't bring it here. Leave your grievances at the door.

Right. Leave that drama llama at home or take your drama llama somewhere else. It's messing up the clean floor.

I think it's highly unlikely Activision will release the code to the public. He promised the code will go to everyone and this shit happens.

This is entirely inaccurate and is nothing more than a counter productive hit piece spreading false information to the community.

    1. Nowhere does it say that he can resell the game for the full price tag or even selling it at all.

    2. This is not black mail on Crimson for starting the petition. She made an agreement that if she was to get JohnnyFlashes support with this petition she would change the petition to get the source code. If Crimson wants to back out and change it then she completely used johnny for his net reach to push her petition that fundamentally wont work because A. Activision no longer has a 3rd party licensing division. (I know this because i talk to Activision employees) B. Even if they were to put it online they could face legal consequences because of the original license agreement with Hasbro has expired. Even if Activision posted it back online for free Hasbro would tell them to shut it down because of gaming competition on other projects coming out and would hurt their sales.

    3. I would be the one getting the assets with johnny. I have UE3 and its source code. What people assume regarding what we do with the assets is release everything. Thats not the case at all. What we release is the map files themselves so that the community can make their own maps send it to us for cooking then send it back to them. Some fears that were expressed about this were players making cheats or op guns. Thats not going to happen since the guns link back to a file outside of the map data. If some one were to change gun damage values and so on when i would get the map and cook it, the data would link to the gun data i have in my transgame folder. So what ever mods are made on those maps to try to sneak it in through would never end up passing the cooking process.

    4. The source code is more important than putting the games back on store. A because putting the games back on store costs Activision money. They didn't make much on these games and fell every short on their intended sale, and thats coming from an Activision employee that was on this project specifically in the contracting side of things. B the truth with the server is that its easy to run and it runs on a virtual machine in Dublin Ireland hosted by Demonware. If some new update for windows came out our server would go down. This has already happened in the past. When the exploit came out that effected Intel processor units the patch came out and solved it but slowed it way down. This was one of the reasons the FOC and WFC server went down. They just forgot to turn the VM back on to that DNS address and it took people like us on twitter hammering @ActivisionAssist for like 2 days until they fixed it. The games online servers could be shutdown at any moment and everyone will be F**K*D, it takes 1 phone call from Activision to do so. Without the source code we can not make a back up server to play with. Without the source code we have no security knowing if today is our last day or not.

    5. What does the server consist of thats so important one might ask.
Well when unreal engine exports server files it exports a exe that does these things
    1. This allows the pre selected ports on the pc to be open and listing for connections
    2. It interacts with several list files normally ending in .sql or .db that holds data for Active Game sessions, Ip addresses, Available Slots, leaderboards info and more.
If the server goes down and we dont have the source code the only way to play online is either socially engineering someone at Demonware to leak the server files which wont happen. Or B some one getting the server files of some other game that came out at like the exact same time of the year running the same version of UE3 and cracking that exe to have a transformers info. Then changing the entire communities configuration file to allow them to connect to someones random computer running some app like the one noip dot com uses. It would just be easier to get the source code. Or at least convince them not to destroy it until some other company was able or willing to buy it.

    6. This idea of changing back to the petition is not helpful in the long term. To promote the idea that the poster was blackmailed is laughable at best because its clear they don't understand how a basic agreement works. If you back out of your terms of any agreement the other party can back out too. Do not be surprised when they say "I wont support this" when one changes terms on them.

A more accurate comparison would be a petition made by JF to have Mcdonalds bring back the sauce. Then JF finds the sauce going there writing down the ingredients then making a copy and selling it small scale. But in this case he would be able to sell it. In our source code analogy he wouldn't be able to sell it.

Not your post, no. The petition and/or posts about it reference a rumor that Activision is going to delete the source code to the TF games imminently, hence at least some of the urgency behind this Sisyphean effort.
