Hi everyone, just started my small shop on Shapeways with upgrade parts and accessories for various TF's. I designed a few upgrades for POTP Rodimus that I felt were worth mentioning here on the 3rd party section.
    20181017_162722-1.jpg

The shoulder cover set was inspired by the DSA pieces available through Ebay, but as their parts kept coming loose and falling off the figure after a while, I came up with my own design that tabs in slightly differently, and also fills in the sides of the chest area, which the DSA parts didn't really address:

The next piece addresses what was probably the biggest issue of POTP Rodimus, his wonky bad looking shoulder articulation. This thigh upgrade set replaces the back half of the Hot Rod thighs and screws directly into the exising screw holes. It connects onto the Hot Rod knee joint/Rodimus shoulder joint peg, and allows the shoulders to move up and down without having to swing the whole Hot Rod thigh upwards. You can see the improved range of motion/aesthetic in the photos, as well as how the pieces fit for installation:

These parts and other designs are now available on Shapeways through my store:

As you can see, the parts were printed and tested on a home 3D printer, and they function perfectly. However, I'm new to Shapeways and don't know what their printing process will do with my designs quality/fit wise, so I hope they come out enjoyable for buyers! Thanks, and feel free to PM me with any questions. =)

No, he can still totally transform into Hot Rod bot/car and winnebago mode with the new thigh parts on.

Love this, more for the leg improvement than the shoulder covers (but those are great!). Wish someone would fix the wonky combined vehicle pipes too.

I think his thighs are white? I'll add that color to the Shapeways options. =)

Added white as an option for the thigh set for installation on Rodimus Unicronus.

Cool to hear! I don’t have POTP Rodimus because I have Legends Hot Rod but I do have Rodimus Unicronus and he is awsome. With your upgrade kit it will make him better :)

These are awesome, looks better than the DSA. I just wish someone would make those fist covers for winnebago mode similar to that other DSA piece. Then my potp rodimus will be perfect enough for me.

Is it too much to ask for some upgrades to the stand alone HotRod figure? I know im not alone in using him as a Rodimus.
Redesigned forearms where the panel under the fists folds back and better designed hinge and exhaust pipes that dont extend way past the fists for one thing.

Nice effort. But you can only paint a turd gold so long. Its still a turd... Just buy DX9 Carry.

I don't care for DX9 Carry. Design is way too busy for my taste. I enjoy POTP Rodimus as a fun toy with a neat gimmick that can take a lot of abuse for not much money.

Come up with some ideas and make them happen! He's a cool figure, but you're right that it can use some improvements.

This is a pretty nice-looking kit. I like what it does!

I don't even know how, or if it's possible, but full replacement arms for the small Hot Rod figure would be ideal. The upper part of the arms is way too thin, and I always feel like I want to pull them away from the body more but can't. Extra width would make them look much better, and it would give room for a cavity to have them slide in for car mode and out for bot mode.

But I think that's a huge undertaking if anyone did it. Every piece would have to be replaced (upper arm, wheels, both elbow joint pieces). Anyone wanting to give this figure a better look will always grab my attention, but I have to wonder if the ultimate fix is just making a whole new Hot Rod figure...

I think the focus on these POTP leaders was more on getting the gimmick to work than optimizing each mode. Optimus pretty much hit it on the head in every mode, but poor Rodimus got the shaft in a lot of ways. Still, the toy definitely grew on me, and as a customizer, part of the fun for me is the challenge of working on a toy and improving it somehow.

beyond doing some sketches it wouldnt get passed that, dont have the software or know-how to design the 3d models or means to test out any prototypes.

Seeing this makes me realize you need to 3dp an Action Masterpiece Rodimus. You prints are phenomenal.

Yeah, he's on the super long "To Do" list that I've got in my head. I actually love my MP-09 Rodimus, but I'd still like to do a new rendition of him. The new SS86 Hot Rod looks interesting, and I could easily just upscale him into an MP figure, but there are also some good looking Legends figures that might be good to turn into MP's, and possibly even emulate their transformation engineering since they tend to be simplified in a way that could work within 3D printing constraints.
This is such an old thread that I almost forgot about this design! lol
