As for toy guns, I don’t think the laws have changed much, it’s just easier to avoid gun modes. Remember nerf megatron got a platinum release in the last few years

I'm a G1 fan, but I don't understand the obsession with having a gun mode for either Shockwave or Megatron.
Shockwave was always a floating artillery. Gun Megatron breaks play patterns, and logically I'd think he'd choose a tank over a gun. Oh we also still have Classics Meg's and MP Meg's, if you must have gun Meg's.

Radio Shack still exists? One would think radios are going the way of the newspapers these days, I mean, way of the dinosaurs. :p  Or they are the main competition for the Lightning Fast VCR Repair Service these days? ;)
Joke aside, would they even still have the rights to that color scheme? In Europe, we have had a very similarly colored (he has pink translucent parts, not red) release of Shocky called "Galaxy Gun" or "Robot Pistol" (I have seen many variations of the packaging). Hasbro can just color him like that and not pay any royalties given that whoever released that toy is long defunct now. Not that I think they ever copyrighted the color scheme... they allowed Hasbro and many other companies release the toy in different colors, so I think they only own the rights to the actual 1985 mold. If they didn't and owned the right to the general shape and design too, then something like MP Shockwave could not exist...

Yes but RVTS Megatron was a (small) Walther P38. That was not a space gun... Which is my point, how could that be released?

I mean, Shockwave’s gun mode as a pretty iconic part of his character, and it’s something I want to recreate from the cartoon. I hope there’s some way to make it stand up.

Megatron’s transformation is also pretty iconic in his cartoon form, but it’s pretty much off the table forever in western markets. Shockwave’s is a cool retro future space gun thing, which rocks.

Because it’s not going to be confused with a real gun. It’s too small

I didn't mean to come across like I was disagreeing with you. The point I was trying to make - and I probably could have been clearer - was just that Hasbro seem to be adopting a slightly different way of getting round the toy gun regulations this time. With TR Sixshot Hasbro said "It's not a gun, it's a submarine". But if John Warden's comments at NYCC are anything to go by, this time they seem to be intimating that they don't intend for Shockwave to have an alt mode without his armour, and if you do transform him without the clip-on parts and he ends up looking like some sort of space gun - well, that definitely wasn't their intent (whistles innocently...). If Hasbro had intended Shockwave to have a 'submarine' mode they presumably would have released an image of it with the other promotional photos, like TomyTakara did when they put out their promotional images. Hasbro didn't put out an image of 'submarine' mode because it does not officially exist, and consequently they can't be seen publicising it. Same end result, just a slightly different way of getting there.

I don't think the laws were changed - wasn't that legion Megatron sold in the US with a bright orange cap over the end of the gun barrel?

I would also really like to see a new Astrotrain. The Titans Return one was great in his robot and spaceship mode, but that train mode was awful. The only other good one was the classics mold, but it's a deluxe so it doesn't even remotely scale with any Blitzwing.

RTS Megatron was not only far too small to be confused for a real gun, but he also had a huge (proportionally) orange cap on the end of the gun barrel due to toy gun laws.

If you don't like what I wrote at least try to argue against it with something that actually makes sense instead of just writing anything you can come up with for the sake of making me look bad.

Honestly, I don't get this mindset of looking down on everything that isn't 84 and then making up all kinds of excuses when people condemn that behavior.

If they did a chug Astrotrain that looks like he did in the toon I might have to get rid of two toys, so that would suck even though it would be nice to have.

They could just release a "stealth" version of Shockwave, like how they managed to release a Crasher repaint of Mirage.

    Fracture (Movie) - Transformers Wiki

edit: By the way, does anyone know what happened to Joe Kyde (former head of the Transformers design team)?

edit2: Nevermind, he's working with The LEGO Group now.

That Optimus will be SOOOOOO hard to not buy.

Megatron, on the other hand, looks like he could use a little bit more paint. Hasbro seems to have a really hard time nailing down the perfect Megs...

I'd rather they did Blitzwing, Sandstorm, Springer and Octane as deluxes this time, but obviously that's not going to happen.
I'm good as far as voyager Blitzwings go.
I'm happy with my TR guy and as happy with him as Megs too after adding some Shapeways parts and taking off the wings.

Even better, Astrotrain, Blitzwing, Apeface, and Snapdragon.
Four Decepticon triple changers, all voyagers.

I don’t even care if Apeface and Snapdragon are headmasters.

    Sold.
But I hope Apeface and Snapdragon are headmasters.
Wouldn't be too upset if they weren't though, it would just be kind of a bad joke since they didn't do them in TR.

But it they did them in a early part of the war, it would Predate them being headmasters.
