Yep, same for me. After Soar came Quakewave and the rest of the Dinos, along with Phoenix and Terminus and so on  
(expensive buy that Soar was for me ...)

 

I received the Grinder Dino Head today.

It reminded me why I have the perception that Fans Toys' products are "premium": The finishes and variety of materials. So beautiful, really. Vacuum chrome in three flavors, smoked translucent plastic, the densest plastic.

 

Yeah agreed. He displays awesome with them in bot mode but I do like the mp-08 with mine in Dino mode. 2 sets it is then!

 

If anyone needs the Chrome version G1 head for Grinder I have one in my sales thread.

 

Yup, agreed, displaying the other 4 in dino mode with MP08.

Grinder is in bot mode standing next to prime, where he should be, with the other leaders Magnus and Rodimus!!!

 

I got my Grinder yesterday and.... not impressed. The gold wasn't right, the dino head it came with is weird (I did get the extra one but I shouldn't have to spend $20 for the one that should have been on it in the first place), getting the legs shut again after getting the tissue paper out of them was a pain. It just doesn't look right. Putting it next to my MP Grimlock from forever ago and I still prefer Grimlock.

I literally only wanted a bigger version of what I already had. I dunno. I guess it looks better in pictures.

Saving $800+ on the rest.

 

That's a bummer for sure. Sorry to hear. The good thing is once the reissues have dried up you can get some pretty good money for him preowned.

 

While I respect your opinion I'm not exactly sure how you could not be impressed with this guy. All 5 dinos are masterpieces to me. I agree with you that I wished Grinder came with the aftermarket head, but there was some legality issues with that whole ordeal. Fans Toys figures are known for their tight joints and squeaks which to me is better than some of the loose areas I have on MP TT figures. In the end it doesn't really matter to me as I leave them in an, "A" stance in my case. Maybe the KO Reximus Prime would be more up your alley. Sixo did a great review of all three. Check them out.

The dino head was intentional to keep it more distinct from MP-08, Kapow in the UK were actually issued a cease and desist order by Hasbro relating to retailing grinder due to its overall likeness regardless. I actually really like the more realistic t rex visage but its not grimlock so I can totally understand that. Either way it does suck if you want a classic grimlock head, but thems the breaks.
Anyone upgrading to him from MP-08, and I very much think he is an upgrade, also contends with the fact that he doesn't have that new toy sheen, and there is so little you can do to vary the bot, dino and transformation without deviating from him being grimlock at all.

 

Reximus Prime might be your grimlock if you're just looking for something bigger. Here is a comparison between Rex and Grinder

Mine was Sever. I got REALLY lucky backtracking for Scoria and Soar at good prices. It was point-of-no-return after that. And Grinder was the perfect finish to the collection.

Gateway? He was the final piece in the jigsaw for alot I'd argue. That gateway was Scoria back in the day, it got better from there on out.

Imagine a world where the only mp Dinobots were Scoria and MP08. Dark days. Even though he was eclipsed by Ceasium (imo) that's still one of my TF 'WOW' moments....unboxing Scoria.

 

For the official only crowd there is still only Grimlock.

 

And that's as depressing as it gets. An archaic stump of a figure before the reboot. Poor Grimmy deserves better.
