A friend suggested this and it's probably true, but the problem with these 'G1' designs sans Prime is that it's obvious they are not from the same damn film as the younger BB or even the Optimus. People are comparing it to video game quality instead of super realistic quality the films HAVE SHOWN is possible as early as the first in 2007.

What my friend suggested is that the entire reason we're getting G1 based designs on Cybertron...is because all they're doing is reusing the assets developed for the canceled Cybertron prequel. They're stuff from a completely different film being shoved into the BB film to save money already invested as well as try to pander to an alienated fanbase demographic.

I mean, just compare Soundwave to Starscream/Blitzwing between the two trailers - one of them looks FAR more in line with the hybridized bayformers aesthetic than the other.

Welcome to the dark side. We have cookies.

But in all seriousness this is EXACTLY the kind of product that the films have made Hasbro think will work. Shoddy, slapped together garbage that tries to make it look like it's working harder to please people than it actually is.

But couldn't the same thing be said about G1? The '86 movie drastically changed the visual style of the robots and the overall tone of the series, to the point that it probably could have been a reboot. Also, IDW and Aligned went through drastic visual changes. Keep in mind WFC and FOC are prequels to Prime. It's just the brand 'transforming' over time as the result of different creative people being allowed to express themselves. Honestly, I think that's pretty cool.

It's a possibility, but I'm not 100% convinced that's the case. I can actually see some of Travis Knight's style in Soundwave. And I can see hints of movieverse Optimus in this design. Look at the antenna area especially. The designs probably look a little less...refined because they were created for a single short sequence, whereas Shatter, Dropkick, and Blitzwing will be seen for longer. This Cybertron scene will probably be 5 minutes, tops. The design work for main characters should always take priority, especially when they're working with a relatively low budget.

If they did reuse assets from the (supposedly) cancelled Cybertron prequel, I actually think that's pretty resourceful. I'd much rather them do that then just plug in generic protoforms or something.

I think people are getting too caught up in the visuals, for the moment. I'm sure the renders are still being processed for the final film and we still have months to go before it's out. You have to remember, they don't do film reels much anymore, everything's basically digitally sent via the internet or satellite to the local theaters. They showed how theaters do it these days and it's all 'net based. That's part of the reason we still have theaters showing incorrect/inappropriate (for the given audience) films and trailers because of labeling at the server level. You rarely ever had that problem when the physical reels were still in hand at the theater.

So, with that ease of distribution and this being the age of computers and the internet, they can tweak the film right up to about the last day before opening night showings to continue tweaking the film.

Just because it's not up to snuff (in some minds) right now, doesn't mean it will stay this way, then.

Patience, everyone, we'll get a chance to see what the truly finished product looks like at the end of the year. If those who naysay are right, we must be gracious and give them their due. If we're right, we should expect the same out of them and we'll gladly be waiting for it.

That said, I'm seeing more and more that tells me this is a reboot, of some kind. None of the Cybertronian modes match up to the previous iterations and the overall look/feel/theme of them see incongruent with the previous films. That said, they've neglected previous films before, in the direct sequels, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was a straight-up prequel with no hope of fixing the mess that is TLK, and they just decided to cash in on nostalgia to sort of shut us up and screw with people for a buck.

Also, Bumblebee's eyes look super adorable in this movie. I think Bumlebee has a fine design in the Bay movies, but I always found his bulging eyes a little creepy. Here they've given him indented eyes that are filled with some sort of hologram light display. His pupils are little white dots. It's a genius eye design.

They wanted a mix of G1 and Bay, not full G1.

No, pretty sure plenty of people wanted G1 and no Bay.

You honestly think this movie looks shoddy? Come on dude, even for you this is ridiculous.

Holy Cow!! I know I was a bit put off with the whole Blitzwing situation, but this more than makes up for it...

And THAT is Cybertron!!! I’m now so psyched just to see Knight’s vision of Cybertron.

So, why are people bitching about it then, smart a? Clearly 100% G1 isn't what people want. It looks like shit anyway. If they are gonna go the G1 reboot route then they could at least make it look better for live action, not a straight up copy and paste. They look like boxes. So uncreative.

Never wanted G1 designs for precisely this reason.

The first trilogy Bayverse designs (TF1 up to DoTM) still feel more believable for me, though the new Bumblebee and Blitzwing strike a happy medium. I really hope that's not the finished Soudwave.

Probably because not every single person in the world has the same preferences. I feel as though that's a pretty easy concept to wrap one's head around. In this thread alone plenty of people seem to like the designs, so your assertion that it's not what "people" want is pretty immature and knee-jerk.

Also, don't worry, you can use swear words if you want on this site.

And what about the people who aren't?

You guys keep saying "people" as if that describes a unified majority.

As much as I despise the Bayformers and love the G1 design, this movie looks like a total mess. There is NONE continuity at all! Why do they suddenly have G1 looks now? This shows Paramount still lacks a vision what they want for Transformers live-action. This move seems desperate.
