The boxiness is out of place, but the G1-esque designs won't be too jarring a contrast since it'll be contained to a brief fanwank scene. I think it'd be perfect if they weren't so boxy - something like the Flame Toys stuff with the same amount of detail as these would be a good meld of "robotic organism" and faithfulness to G1. Imagine this with some more mechanical bits like these new designs:

EDIT: Oh yeah Jessie and James are looking pretty badass but Barry better be coming soon or else

honestly, this feels like x-men first class, which was a prequel in name only. the story was entirely inconsistent with the previous movies established lore to the point that they made a time travel movie to wipe out the old ones. bumblebee may be a prequel in name, but it seems like itll probably end up creating its own sequels that ignore the original movies

On Earth they have to fully replicate every minute detail of what they turn into in order to be properly disguised which means their bodies have to be dedicated to different kinds of parts and systems which leads to a weird look. On Cybertron all they have to worry about is propulsion and aerodynamics which leads to a simpler look.

So we find out when the trailer drops, or following the trailer, that it's Blitzwing's fellow triple changer, Octane, ejecting constructicon Razorclaw in the teaser, right?

But the X-Men First Class is a prequel to the other X-Men movies & that was confirmed by the Time Travel movie.

Between these Optimus and Soundwave designs and the alt modes of the Siege line, Transformers is really bringing on the ugly. Optimus sounds terrible. The two designs look to have none of the compromises such as Bumblebee's or Blitzwing's to bridge the gaps and give something spectacular to look at and instead look like toons or a video game plastered onto the big screen. Nothing about them brings forward anything unique to really catch the eye, instead bringing forth a hamfisted rehash. Some slight tweaks such as staying nearer to their movie face/head designs, reduced boxiness and more visible transformy bits and they would have looked good, but instead they just look so out of place and unpleasant.

    Bumblebee's still cute, though.

This feel like they are trying to do what the last Turtles movie did and that didn't work out so well for that movie.

Heh. I dunno, y'all. I joined the fandom in 2011, when I was 10. To me, Dark of the Moon seemed like this big, Ten Commandments-type spectacle that you absolutely had to see. You guys probably just saw it as another disappointment, but to me, it was special. Leonard Nimoy! Shockwave! Boom! I knew about the movies and about Animated, but DOTM is where I consider my love to really have started, and it delivered for 10-year-old me.

7 years later and Transformers is practically in my blood at this point. In that time, I've seen 4 (G1, BW, Animated, and Prime) cartoons, 5 movies (skipped TLK), cried over Rewind getting cornered and killed in an escape pod, marked out over buying Generations Cosmos and Swerve, rooted for Smokescreen on Beast Hunters, and hemmed and hawed with the rest of yinz over Windblade getting pushed to the moon when we still barely know her.

Personally, this is another big moment for me as a fan. I really wanna see where this goes and I think that, if it does really well, it could do what the IDW comics and Age of Extinction did not too long ago where there was this seismic shift of how the overall mythos and certain characters were presented. Hang on to somethin', y'all. We might be in the big one.

Yeah it’s perhaps silly to go all in on a movie because of fan wank designs....

But in addition to nostalgia, Travis Knight is also aware of the story that needs to be told between Charlie and Bee.

except first class itself is inconsistent with the other x-men movies. in x-men magneto helped xavier build cerebro (which is why he could make a cerebro proof helmet rather than getting it randomly from a dude that really had no reason to have one) while in first class hank mcoy built cerebro. in first class moira mctaggert is an american cia agent while in x-men the last stand she is a scottish doctor. xavier gets paralyzed in first class but can walk and use his powers in both x-men origins wolverine and the opening scene of x-men the last stand.

so yea realistically first class isnt really a prequel, it was always a new number 1 that had stylistic elements of the original movies to the point where they shoe horned in a time travel plot to close off the original series and attempt to explain any inconsistencies even though the inconsistencies were created by a movie that predated the time travel

IF this movie has Megatron on Cybertron while Bee is on Earth, THEN we can say with 100% certainty that this is a straight up reboot.

    Right now, I'm calling this a soft-reboot.

You're all wrong, it's obviously Reflector! And that cat thing that popped out of his chest is Thundercracker!

Are these jokes starting to get old yet?
