So I finally transformed him and I was unlucky to get the broken shoulder joint. I immediately knew mine was broken and yes it is the exact same side as everyone else's. But you know what, that didn't irritate me as much. What really irritated me is a giant paint flaw on the head! Anyone know how to fix this? There is a similar flaw on a face plate. :p

You could try to fix the shoulder... Remove the pin, re align the ratchet joint and then apply the shoulder fix that has been discussed ad nauseum here in this thread.

As @smkheidze said, it looks like your shoulder joint isn't broken yet and can still be saved. However, since you also have a paint issue it might be worth contacting the seller and do an exchange.

I can try to fix it but my concern is that it will end up like this:

The shoulder on mine still works pretty well. After this guy in the video 'fixed' it, the shoulder seems to be hanging loose?

After this video, other suggested e clips and other things to slide into the back side of that assembly. I took a strip of a plastic insert from a retail figure, folded it thrice, taped it, cut it into a circle, drilled a hole, popped the pin out, slid it in and now the ratchet works fine again.
Thought about doing another video, but I feel this one is good enough. The joint isn't necessary for articulation, and the figure isn't at risk of breaking.
    Hope that helps.

Yes I've been reading through this thread and the eclips thing seems like a nifty solution. My Dinobot's flawed shoulder still works like it is supposed to, it just squeaks rather than make the proper ratchey sound that it is supposed to so I am not too bothered except I have a feeling it will break completely.

I just wish it didn't have that paint flaw. I've contacted AmiAmi. Let's see.

The squeaking is definitely not something you want it to do. Too much tension on those pieces may result in further and permanent damage.
Considering yours has a paint flaw i'd wait to see if amiami can replace it before you try to repair it. If not, I'd recommend lining the ratchet back up And sliding in those e clips

Thanks for your sensible advice. I'll wait to see what they say before trying to repair. For the paint I may find an art shop and try to cover it up.

Not stuff you want to be doing on such an expensive piece but the figure is just a stunner, especially in robot mode. I enjoyed Beast Wars but wasn't a huge fan, yet I love this figure. Definitely in the top 5 MPs Takara has done, even with the manufacturing issues taken into account.

Funnily enough, the ankles on mine are perfect. Has no trouble standing in either mode without the stand.

PLEASE report to your seller so he can report to Takara, worth it. It's important to let know to Takara that's it's a real issue and not a incorrect use of its figure. I'm managing the issue with Nippon-yasan and I send them a couple of photos, youtube videos and references from this forum to make the complain. If we don't try we will not solve anything.

That would be the best route IMO. If you can use a small screwdriver and rotate the joint to get the notch back into the tab then putting an eclip should fix it right up.

It's technically not broken, just misaligned. Which should be fixable.

I had been fiddling with Dinobot for a few weeks and so far had no issues with the shoulder joints, but that didn’t mean I wasn’t as careful with it as with a newborn baby! Anyway, I didn’t really feel the need to buy some of those clips or make something to “fix” the joint with since mine seemed to have no issues, but I happened to find a couple e-clips at work that I figured I’d fit in there just for the heck of it. Well, not only have the clips made the joints a tad bit tighter so they hold position better, but I find myself having a greater peace of mind knowing they are way less likely to fail. If anyone else is on the fence about it, just do it. It took almost no effort at all, and if you don’t want to buy a whole pack of them just go to a hardware store or some kind of mechanic shop and just ask for some. I highly doubt you’ll get charged for two little pieces of metal.

My lucky MP QC free streak comes to an end. I received a copy that has TWO bad shoulders (long description below):

Out of the box both shoulders seemed like the peg was almost out of the slot. But when I first transformered him both shoulders clicked easily and naturally. I transformed him a total of three times before the left shoulder started to feel like it was ‘tightening’ up. I purchased and placed e-clips in both shoulders and used some lubricant but the shoulder continued to feel tighter and tighter with each back and forth rotation. The shoulder eventually seized and would no longer budge. The right shoulder lasted a few more rotations before the tightness kicked in and then it also seized. I could no longer transform his arm(s) either way. I made the tough decision of shearing off the ‘pegs’ knowing that although that part of the shoulder will only rotate by friction, at least it will rotate again. After the ‘operation’ my Dinobot can now transform back and forth into both modes again.

Am I bummed? Totally. But I’m glad I can still pose and transform him.

I’m starting to wonder if the spring is faulty, as in the more you rotate the shoulder back and forth the more the spring starts to warp and eventually seize (think MP-09 ankle spring issue) because that’s what it felt like to me. Even after the e-clips were popped in and I could see the peg inserted deeper in the slot, it didn’t improve the shoulder from tightening up and eventually seizing.

TL;DR: Both shoulders worked fine out the box. After a few transformations the shoulders tightened and e-clips were inserted. Shoulder movement didn’t improve and both shoulders eventually seized up. I had to shear off the pegs so that Dinobot can transform again.

Mines stying in the box till a reissue comes out , ( if it comes out ). I have the eclips ready if it never happens though. Just sucks for the moment as I paid some nice coin to have this guy . I’ll see what the future holds before making a decision on what I should do with him . #frustrated

If you aren't going to take it out of the box for five years, you might as well sell it.
