Furman's rules were tossed out in 2012. Also they were garbage. Hence the tossing out.

And there have been several heterosexual relationships in these books. Spark Stalker and Lightbright already showed up in this book, professing love for each other on panel and Ru Maj and Wreck Gar are a couple in Opti us Prime.

 

The fucking first issue of Unicron had Sparkstalker tell Lightbright he loves her.

"Heterosexual relationships are out of the question for this series" has literally never been true.

 

They killed Mistress of Flame and at least one of the Torchbearers. There are just MORE pre-existing characters.

 

Random thoughts...

- Damn, Blurr's death scene was handled really well. Heroic sacrifice, meta-reference to another speedster who died in a crisis, etc. Probably one of the best moments of the series.
- So, what exactly did Optimus go and do between telling Aileron to teleport Metroplex and then showing up on Earth along with all the people who teleported away?
- More unnecessary TF/TF PDA, complete with stupid cartoony sound-effects. Ugh.
- Are the remaining Torchbearers still on Bludgeon's ship or did they teleport away too? How come Monstructor didn't finish them off?
- As someone who grew up in Western Canada, it warms my heart seeing the Center of the Universe (Toronto) get destroyed. Now the Leafs will never win the Cup again...not that they were ever going to anyway.
- I wish Unicron was more of a character in this, rather than just a plot device. This is one of the few (only?) instances where Unicron has been presented with zero personality of his own and it's unclear whether he's actually even sapient. I'm hoping we get at least one scene in the remaining issues where Unicron talks with one or more of the other characters.

TBF, they got thrown out...like...4 years ago now? And I'd say the human/human custom thing was a Costa thing rather than character...cause he CERTAINLY admitted to not getting it. And Lightbright is married to Sparkstalker. We saw them get engaged. Plus Getaway hit on Firestar. Strafe thought Slug was flirting. Swift was dating Barricade. One of firestar's crew was married boy/girl. Rum-Maj and Wreck Gar are a thing. Plus there's the long held fantheory that tailgate is a secret lady (although I think that's less popular now.

 

On the page where Unicron rips Cybertron in half, There are three shards front and center. The first in the top left are turbofoxes running, then we have dead Omega Supreme, what are the next two?

Wowie. This issue really brought back to me the feeling I had when Unicron #0 and #1 came out: fear and dread. Seeing so many of these characters, lovable and otherwise, not only die, but die GRUESOMELY, it really hits home for me. Blurr goes down like the champion he is. Cosmos finally feels like he belongs, and dies fighting alongside them. Elita goes down the only way she could've; screaming. And that money shot of Unicron screaming as he tears apart Cybertron, and then the stars go out behind him; just chills. And then Prime on the last page, the last panel, "We find a way." Damn, that really sounds like him (and unlike a lot of people I guess, I've liked his characterization the past couple years). Like, really sounds like him.

Although that hug with Windblade did feel a bit off to me as well...

And seeing Starscream get socked was utterly fantastic. I mean, even Bumblebee has had it with him now, and he'd been ghosting him FOR YEARS! So yeah, he had it coming.

The Council of Worlds chamber (took me a minute to figure it out too) and Maccadams.

 

For some reason for me the Turbofoxes running was the most emotionally wrenching part of all these planets getting destroyed.

 

...the Marvel comics handled Unicron better IMO.

We def need a good explanation to origin. What do we have so far other than "shockwave knew dude was coming and planned for it?" Is he being lured/attracted to the ores? Why? Does he have purpose?

As others have noted, hetero relationships are not out of the question by any means. Sparkstalker/Lightbright, Rum Maj/Wreck Gar, Tigatron/Airrazor, they even seemed to be building something between Ironhide and Chromia until TAAO got canned.

The simple fact is most cybertronian societies have been gender homogeneous for millions of years. No females on Cybertron, few males on Caminus. Same-gender relationships are the norm in their society, not the other way around. Not to mention the very concept of gender doesn't even have the same connotation to them(re: procreation). They have NO basis for desiring one gender over another for their partner.
