I received my TCW-06 on Monday and finally had a chance to really look at it. When it came in, the extra black Combiner sword had deformation on the tip. I was able to straighten it out, but there were stress marks on it. The problem was due to the fact that they shipped the extra sword in it's own bag with no protection. I was able to slightly heat the tip and remove the stress marks and lightly sanded the rest of the deformation with a 1000 grit whetstone.

I don't have any comments on the combiner parts since it's going to someone else. I'm a big fan of the guns and swords though. The Combiner sword has a nice reddish orange paint and it has a slight metallic sparkle to it. The individual swords have a nice red paint. Some slight paint application blobs here and there, but nothing too terrible. The Combiner swords do have a slight flash left on it on the spine of the blade. I was able to take a knife and smooth it out. I'm going to slightly weather the black with gold paint, so it should be fine. My only other slight complaint is that the side 5mm pegs on the sword are slightly undersized. When you try to peg them into the leg, it isn't a tight connection and will fall out rather easily.

I plan on getting the Nonnef guns to round out the weapons I need.

I've been patiently waiting for TFSource to send this out. In the mean time I need to do something about tightening up Swoop legs so he can hold that Sword.

Yeah I saw your pictures. I think the combo you posted is the way mine will end up. Thanks for doing all the testing! :D

Man this kit looks amazing...I'm still having a hard time deciding which one to go with. Care to share your thoughts after getting it assembled and taking some shots of it? It LOOKS fantastic, but is it fun to mess with? Are you experiencing the issues with the backpack putting extra strain on Grimlock's shoulders?

Actually it depends on your patience and tolerance.
Off the bat, PE's quality is much better in terms of plastic. I already have a few stress marks at the part where it connect to the thighs of Grimlock that forms the butt plate for Volcanicus.
Aesthetics wise, TDW looks better and I don't like mixing and matching with the PE kits as it made it looked inconsistent.

Assembling it was a cinch (the hand connector you will have to sand it down a wee bit just like what foxracing said) but as any combiner, the fail comes from the actual figure itself, not the upgrades. So if you are willing to out up with Grimlock's shortcomings in combined mode, I strongly suggest you amass some level of patience when handling and playing with the figure.
As for the backpack, I have no issues.
But generally I am very pleased with my kit and he is a fine addition to my Combiner shelf.

Thanks for the reply! I'm assuming the stress marks on the the waist piece are on slots where Grimlock's thighs peg in? If that's the case then there's probably no real worry that it will break I'm guessing.

I don't mind doing a little fit and finish work to make things perfect, a lot of collectors would find that unacceptable, but for me it usually makes me feel more ownership of my figures.

I'm going to go with the hybrid combination, using the TDW set, with PE replacement parts for Grimlock and the backplate.

It was @foxracing who did it first. Perfect Effect PC-21, PC-22 & PC-23

I LIKE THE NARROW WAIST OF TDWs set, but this way I get the parts for Grimlock I wanted and the torso looks more stable, granted I like the Obari-esque look of TDWs set, but I can compromise.

Poor plastic quality is always something people mention when reviewing these guys. I wish they would make the quality better. Is it just cheap plastic or Hasbro level
