I can't believe that they only want $750,000 for this house.

This New York Castle Could Be Yours

I guess the price is because it's in Albany. If that was down here in Southern NY it would probably be 2million (maybe even more).

Anyone else see any cool houses for sale?

Theres a castle in Amsterdam, NY (about 45 min from Albany). It used to be an armory for the national guard

A classmate of mine lived there when I was in school. He had an indoor basketball court in his home, tons of rooms, it was crazy. His dad got it for like 150k from a bank dealing with a foreclosure in the late 90s/early 2000s. He fixed it up, made it a one-family home, and tried selling it for 3-4x what he paid around 2004/2005.

In my 20s, it passed hands a few times. It's now a hotel / bed and breakfast. Beautiful building. It was listed for 5 million a few years ago, before the hotel. No idea on how many owners it had between my classmate's family and the hotel sale. It seemed like it was sold to someone new every other year. Amsterdam has insane taxes for regular homes, so I can just imagine a castle

the price looks too good, buyer beware

true its in Albany, but there's probably a real good reason why no one wants this castle

My best guess would be given the time period it was built in it may not have modern amenities like centralized heat/air. Modernizing an old home... especially a castle is costly... and sometimes impossible. If an old home is considered historical ...and I'd be willing to bet a castle probably is... you have to get all sorts of expensive permits to renovate the building and everything has to be done in a specific manner that it won't jeopardize the original features that make it historical. Sometimes due to this the renovations can even simply not be allowed outright.
