Anybody else here play guitar? I searched and couldn't find another thread discussing this. What do you play? What equiptment/pedals/amps do you use? Electric or accoustic? Who are your favorite players? etc.

I'll start by posting my main two axes. My first "real" electric after starting out trying to learn on cheap copies is a 1999 Fender American Standard strat. Next is my 2012 Gibson Les Paul Studio 50's tribute goldtop. They both sound terrific in their own characteristics and play smooth as silk. I love them!

I also assembled and soldered a frankenstrat last year and am currently trying to put together a Kurt Cobain style Franken-Mustang. I'll post pics of those projects later.

I've started to learn several times after three times buying a guitar and declaring 'this time for sure" lol. I regret getting rid of my first (A BC Rich Ironbird with red crackle finish.)

I saw a 2nd Ironbird for sale at a flea market and my gf at the time encouraged me to get it. Unfortunately, when I took it to a friend who knows guitars well, it turned out that guitar was junk (the bridge was warped, most of the guts had been replaced with cheap stuff) so another friend customized it with an Ultraman paint job and it is hanging on my office wall since my office is all Godzilla / Ultraman themed.

A few years ago I was given the game Rocksmith for the Xbox one , so I went and got another guitar to use with the program, a black with red trim BC Rich Warlock...i just haven't had as much time as I'd like to get into the program.

Very nice stuff! I also have Rocksmith and play it when I can. I rarely have time to play it though, but I definitely recommend it as a good tool for learning some songs, just be careful to have good posture, hand/finger position etc. and youll get there. What kind of stuff do you like to play?

Nice guitars there, by the way: do bass guitars count? I’m only able to play 4 strings, or as the drummer of my old and current band always said: what are those people who hang around musicians called again? - That‘s right, bass players! ;)

Im first and foremost a drummer and play a 10 piece pearl export drum set that's set up left-hand but can play right about half way. My drum set consists of 4 toms from sizes of 8,10,12,13 and 2 floor 16x16 with second floor tom tuned to 18" floor tom. The rest is 2 bass drums 22x20 and 2 snares 5x14 and piccolo snare with sabian cymbals and pearl rack and stands. I have a left hand double bass pedal but i also have a single pedal. So with 2 bass drums i use my single pedal for my second bass drum and first bass drum i use the left side of pedal. I have a guitar and its a black Ibanez guitar and a 10w amp. I have 1 guitar pedal but it's basically a distortion pedal but i want that other heavy metal distortion pedal that is out.

Of course! Anyone plucking strings is welcomed. Any pics of your stuff?

Funny, those jokes, at least with the people I played with, always revolved around drummers, as in:

    Q: What's in band?
A: Three musicians and one drummer

Q: What was the last thing the drummer said before being fired from the band?
A: Hey guys, I wrote a new song!

Any pics of your kit? I swear, I love going into music stores and just banging on the drums. I know nothing about them but it is so cathartic.

I have a few project guitars too. Ever check out the guitarfetish factory clearance section? Lots of cheap, semi-finished guitar parts!

Haha, never heard it that way around. Around here the bass players always seem to be the butt of jokes, maybe it‘s a local thing ;) .

Sure thing, but for my bass boxes I can only use a stock pic because I don‘t have a picture of them and they are sitting in the rehearsal room of one of my old bands.

I mostly play an Epiphone Jack Casady signature bass (the hue of the color doesn‘t quite match the regular white my bass has when you see it in real life) which is a semi-hollow e-bass. I fell in love with that thing because of its rockabilly-look, its sound and feel while playing it. I use it for an acoustic/singer-songwriter-band side project as well as punk and hardcore stuff (if you turn the varimax switch to 250 it has quite some power and nice sound). In conjuction with that my standard equipment for playing gigs consists of two Hartke VX410 bass boxes (about 100 watt each).
For just playing around I use an acoustic bass by Ibanez (AEB8E-BK) which I am pretty lukewarm on.
Somewhere I still have my first bass by Yamaha lying around.

I'm not a guitar guy, but my dad is in a hobby/cover band and the dude has like 7 or 8 of them for when he has a show (he switches a good 4-5 times per show, each tuned differently or used for different types of songs).

I know 2 of them are Gibson Les Paul's. Ones a stratocaster. Two of them were 700 on sale and he bought two of it (one in green for practice, one in white tiger stripe for shows). His first guitar from the late 70s that he's rebuilt with a bunch of expensive parts. Etc..... His basement is basically a studio (all kinds of sound boards/mixers, a rigged up computer/mic set, his lighting rog for shows, all sorts of stuff

My children. Dean Angel of Deth, Gibson Gothic Les Paul, Gibson Custom Les Paul, Epiphone SG Tony Iommi model, Fender 50th Anniversary Stratocaster. The Custom Les Paul is gonna be a project guitar eventually. New pick ups and hardware and such. The Fender is the first guitar I ever got from my pop. I'm on the fence on whether I'll do some work to that one or not.

I really love that flying V so I'm guessing that it's the Dean Angel of Deth? Do you have any Dimebag style guitars in your collection?

Sorry for the crappy phone pics, I had better ones on my old phone. I have a Gibson SG, Fender Bass, a Washburn acoustic, Rogue mandolin, beginner electric violin ( I can't remember the brand), two Casio keyboards, a thrift store electric that I rebuilt and customized, and a bunch of mics. 0806182029a-1.jpg 0806182029b-1.jpg 0806182029-1.jpg 0806182029c-1.jpg

I had put my last electric in hock while times were tight. My wife assured me that she'd get me the money to get it out, and didn't allocate the budget for it in time. She thought it was my acoustic, so she wasn't motivated to work towards getting it out as my electric was more versatile.

It was an Epiphone Dot Studio with distressed hardware and the satin Walnut finish.

Currently I'm ogling an LTD EC-1000 Koa at a local music store. $1,000 plus whatever the case will cost, and they have layaway. Just a matter of making sure I can budget it in. THEN I get to try to find a new brand of amp since my favorite went out of business.

I have that bass too. Have you ever plugged it in? Can you get a workable tone out of it? It just sounds like ass my man I'm pretty lukewarm on it too.
    I'm also sporting:
    - Fender American Standard Jazz bass (I added a Badass II bridge) (This is my favorite possession)
    - Epiphone Embassy IV bass (my first, still kicking around)
    - Some Yamaha acoustic guitar
    - Ibanez early 2000s RG 7 string (with EMGs)
    - Gibson Studio 2017 Firebird
    - Mayfair (?) banjo I got from some guy (some work was done the droning string or whatever is godly)

Really would love an Epiphone Sheraton one of these days. That's my next prize

Haha, no, I‘m afraid that may be impossible. I mean it does not sound totally horrible but I seldom play it because my other options sound way better. My main gripe, besides the lackluster sound, is that it handles horribly. It‘s just not fun to play on that bass especially when you prefer to use fingers like I do...playing the e-string feels really bad (as in: not tight) and unsatisfying.

Haha it was a long shot. That's what I get for buying the cheapest acoustic bass at Guitar Center I guess. I was like "this is totally gonna sound like Jar of Flies hell yea" How naive I was
And yeah now that you mention it the bass is weird to play. It's floppy and not like, super responsive. Coming from smashing strings with my fingers on a Jazz to that bass always leaves me hanging. I put it up in the local classifieds though so that solves that problem really.
