PotP Lazerbeak PotP Buzzsaw PotP Ratbat PotP TM2 Ravage Simple run-down on the mold changes: - Modified both regular&combined mode head with both plastic bits&contour putty. - Modified Rumble's cannon to be able to fit both of Ravage's guns into it. - And the rest is all done with simple paint apps. Soundwave "Reunited with his Casseticon Troops, Soundwave arrived with four more Casseticons; Rumble, Frenzy, Overkill, and Beastbox. Maximal or Predacon, there would be no distinction during this process of elimination. Or atleast, not after covertly storing an illegal combination matrix in his obsolete cassette deck." "Soundwave must be stopped...No matter the cost..." UPDATE: New pictures with a better camera+new lightbox setup. Soundwave & Cassetticons Finally, I can show off this custom in a way that is actually visible. I'm also hoping THAT is what kept it from selling til now.
Combined mode Preparation: Combined Mode : Soundblaster - Using Ravage&Ratbat as the legs keep them appropriately black for the combined mode. - Using Laserbeak&Buzzsaw as the arms kept the forearms appropriately silver for the combined mode. - Rumble combines with Ravage's guns to become a combined quad-blaster. - Frenzy combines with Laserbeak's gun to become Soundwave's iconic shoulder cannon. - Overkill&Beastbox combine into the feet to provide extra weight and stabilize the figure while also filling out the foot gaps. - Ravage's tail&Buzzsaw's sawblade plug into both thumbs on a single hand to make a Bladed Saw Whip. - Opening the combined mode chest reveals a Dark Energon-fueld Combination Matrix. Final notes? This was fun. I was originally against it when people asked about Laserbeak, because of how much I'd have to invest into making it. Both financially and simply how much time it'd take. But with how well the combined mode matches the color scheme of Soundblaster and how each individual piece turned out; I have to say I'm very happy with it. Now I just have to hope somebody actually buys the thing. Update: New Pictures Finally, decent lighting.
That's actually a custom Megatron I made awhile back using the original Kenner toy. New left arm, articulated beast mode arms, etc. BW Megatron Custom
This is GENIUS! I love the concept and the execution, may I suggest adding a bit of purple and white/blue to the feet? To make it a bit more obvious that Overkill and Beastbox are there, otherwise 100/10, the 4 smaller cassettes took me completely by surprise, masterful work!
It is, yes. Like I said, it was the original Ultra class Kenner toy, not the Robotmasters thing that came later. The left arm was complete scratch built with a tarantulas leg+spareplastic+twist-ties. All the screwholes on the figure were covered with contour putty. So it stands just barely taller than MP Optimus Primal. Oh right, the backpack was cut in half and reattached with twist-ties so it can fold into itself for robot mode. That's probably what is throwing you off from recognizing it's the original Kenner; No gigantic wing silhouette. I thought about it, but a lot of the design was built around making a coherent combined mode. In fact, I failed to point this out in the first post so let me do so here. Thank you for reminding me. Design Concessions: - This is why Ratbat is HotPink&Black like the original toy rather than Hotpink&DarkPurple like he's normally depicted. - This is why Ravage is based on TM2 Ravage rather than Season 1, the bits of gold help blend in with Ratbat as both are legs. - This is why Buzzsaw's sawblades are on the underside of the figure rather than the top, so that they don't look awkward in the combined mode when compared to Laserbeak. - Overkill was actually chosen last. Originally the minicons would be Beastbox and Slugfest(gold&purple), but I decided that the silver backpack would stand out too much on Slugfest and having purple on both feet whereas Ravage had none would make it off-balance. I wanted the minicons to vanish for the combined mode entirely, giving solid silver chrome feet like Soundblaster had. - Rumble (Red) was chosen as the quad-blaster because Frenzy (Blue) matched up with what little blue was visible from Soundwave's non-combined body. Rather than a black shoulder cannon sitting on blue shoulder spikes. - The choice of Soundblaster as the combined mode was also simply because I couldn't get any blue onto the four limbs without making it look awkward on them.
Can I have some detail shots or WIP pictures of the backpack mod? I'm hoping to mod my own Megatron and your method is the finest I've seen.
@Ottertron :"what kind of sick f*#k gets turned on watching a guy customize a transformer." @AutobotAvalanche :*points* WEEGEE:*pants* "I'm sorry biggie...hahhhhhhhhhhh"
Once a get a better camera again, I'll see if I can take some shots of the backpack and make a quick tutorial on how to do it. Of note is that the mod is almost a year old now with frequent transformation and has held up just fine.
The lighting was actually better than any picture I've ever taken. The problem is that the replacement camera I got was just that terrible. No idea when the next camera will get here since the tracking stopped working. If it hasn't sold by then, I might consider taking some extra shots.
POTP hun-grrr The flyer limbs are all POTP swoop redecos Ravage is a POTP rippersnapper redeco Frenzy and rumble are made from thrilling 30 scoops targetmasters.
