Just got my Asterisk Stray and I loooove it except that the arms pop off at the shoulder ball joint way too easily (as in it cannot be transformed without them popping off). Not remotely an issue on my other versions of the mold, but has anyone else encountered this? Wondering if the heat from transit/delivery messed with the tolerances or if I just got a lemon.

 

It's just a factor of the inner hinge joint being very tight out of the box and so when it doesn't move as you pull on the arm the pressure is pushed entirely to the more free moving ball socket and making it easily pop out. I had the same thing with my initial handling of regular Stray but it can easily happen with ball joints in general if more pressure than is needed gets forced on to them.

This is why you don't want to pull the arms out in one big motion and also want to transform him a few times to loosen up that inner joint. Once the plastic settles a bit from handling the ball sockets should be fine. But you do need to gradually nudge them up and down. If you just pull all at once you increase the force you're exerting on the ball joint the longer you pull.

 

To make them look more distinct from each other, for Optimus I folded the shoulder pads back, I left the leg wheels out, kept the rocket half of the arm weapons attached to the cannons, and flipped the wheels down on the backpack. The last part I’m not sure I’ll keep but the rest looks great IMO and keeps them from looking like clones of each other.

Thunder Prominion is probably my favorite figure I have gotten so far this year, loving the colors and sculpt. I have Tarn and Glitch in the mold already (asterisk tarn) but not thunderclash yet but man this guys amazing. Drifts great too,

 

I never heard about these until recently. They seem pretty cool. Prominon seems more like pax than prime and that’s cool. Drift is wonderful looking. I’d like to see the full asterisk line up with these guys. It’d be a really interesting display.

 

Even holding the hinge in place and moving the arm around had it popping off easily initially, but your suggestion of "breaking in" the hinge joint was definitely a huge help as far as getting through transformation in one piece and evening out the tolerances in general.

Pleasant surprise after leaving it overnight: the ball joints themselves definitely seem sturdier now. Not as sturdy as the other mold-mates, but significantly better and it can be posed/transformed without issue (the popping off during posing before was the main cause for concern). I think maybe it did just have to "settle" as you said. Either way, I appreciate the reply!

 

Yeah, this. I love my Botcon repaint of Energon Starscream into Skyquake to death (he, Botcon 2003 Sideswipe, and legends Ramjet are my only Botcon exclusives) but I would absolutely love a MMC Skyquake from that Sonic Bomber mold.

 

Finally got my MW Prime in the mail today--I hadn't realized how big he was going to be. I can't get over how awesome this guy looks, and I'm so glad I waited for the MW paint scheme. This one is definitely up there on my list of favorites!

As happy as I am, I'm pretty miffed at how I'm pretty sure I'll never have some Not-Machine Wars updates to go with 'em.

 

Skyquake, Stalker and Rotorstorm are all in IDW. If mmc makes toys of them other MW recolors will be on the table I would assume.




But yeah I wouldn't be as optimistic for the other toys being recreated given the rest were all pretty forgettable.

 

I’d buy all of those but I’d really want a MW Megatron to go with the Prime. That’s less likely...

Roller is an idw character who worked with Orion pax and was like skyfire except he was a paddy wagon. It’s assumed that prime named roller after him.
