It's been about a year or so since I last completed a custom figure, it's about time I get back into it. Still currently under construction, here's a sneak-peak of my custom Skywarp! Not a lot to see here, but I should have him complete over the weekend. Base black is Krylon and detail paints are a mix of Vallejo and Citadel. I've removed the combination components to save some headache on paint wear, and I didn't feel it fit Skywarp. And though you can't see it, that box in the background contains parts for Thundercracker I'll update with completed pics as soon as they're available!
I was gonna do the same thing but can't figure out what to do with the combiner heads, they shouldn't all have a crown. Then again, thundercracker and skywarp were reformatted into scourge and cyclonus respectively by that point.
EEEEEEOOOOWWWWW! can't wait! SOME ONE has to deal with those shelfwarmers! (not that it matters where I am, every voyager bar inferno is shelfwarming...)
Krylon fusion isn't made anymore is it? I haven't been able to find it in awhile. What did they replace it with?
I don't think it is. I had a couple cans from a little while back. The purple I used is Krylon Colormaster Paint + Primer and seems to work well.
Looks promising. I want to do this myself but I feel like WFC will give us a better jet/seeker mold. And probably for the best. The combined head isn’t very pretty. Plus slimmer arms and feet
Planned to complete them this past weekend, but got sidetracked (I blame GenCon ). Detail painting is just about done, with some minor touch ups needed. Then I'll seal them and reassemble.
Finally finished these two! I think Skywarp turned out pretty good. Looks pretty good next to Starscream, too! I don't like how the wings are attached via rivet. I tried to reattach the wings the same way I pulled them off, using a soldering iron to heat the rivet and pull the wing assembly off, but I couldn't get it to go back on that way. So I tried replacing the rivet with a small screw and now the wings really loose. I'm afraid to try to transform him for fear of them falling off. As for Thundercracker, I accidentally put his torso back together with the wrong screws, and when I tried to put the pin back into his chest, he kind of exploded... Sheared off all three screw posts in the process. That wasn't pretty All-in-all it wasn't a bad project. I need to be more mindful of which screws I remove from where so this doesn't happen again. And I need to find a better way to deal with rivets. Comments, crits, and suggestions always welcome!
skywarp turned out wonderful! it's a shame about thundercracker, he's my absolute favorite seeker great work!
I commend you for highlighting the good and the bad (of which there is a lot in any customizing project - more than we would hope anyway). Bravo on Skywarp. He looks great. Very sharp coloring. Hopefully, you won't abandon completing the trio. Good luck with Thundercracker.
