    Not a fan of G1 looks in live action so far. Just looks too simple

    My answer to that would be...2007. Hollywood didn't really seem to be doing "retro" during that time period. The late '90s and 2000s seemed to be the era of overly modernizing classic properties. It happened with Godzilla, most superhero characters, and even the Star Wars prequels kind of fall into the trend.

    Part of the marketing for the 2009 Star Trek movie literally involved "removing the nerdy stigma" from the brand by emphasizing that it's "not your dad's Star Trek" and that the director "is not a Star Trek fan". (Yes, this was a real thing that happened.)

    With the success of stuff like Guardians of the Galaxy (and the failure of stuff like '90s Godzilla), Hollywood has finally realized that "retro" can be cool (and profitable), if they just embrace it. Some modernization happens with all modern movies (which is good), but I'm glad the era of making everything "hip" seems to be winding down.

    The thing is getting them to realise that what made that classic stuff beloved and endearing is far from a visual thing, a novelty or a nostalgic atmosphere that built up with the years. There's so much more than meets the eye about Transformers, for example.

    That's too G1-ish for my taste.

    You’ve done the community a great service yet again @Red Goblin he looks great!

    That being said, I would hope the final product has a tiny bit more influence from the 07 to 09 prime. Maybe a mix between this and the evasion prime idk. But that’s just my opinion.

    I’d say if they took the the basic overall design in the first photo and take some aspects from the second and mixed them together would be good.

    Are we still doing "Character X is actually gonna be character Y" jokes 11 years in? Talk about beating a dead horse.

    It’s been especially revamped due to the whole Blitzwing incident.

    If we really want a cool new look for Optimus, look no further;

    Megatron would straight drop down dead if he saw this coming at him.

    Of course they are.

    If it's not the robot aesthetics, it's their names or something else to moan about.

    As someone who in the past defended different aesthetics and name slapping, even I have been taken aback by the sudden reveal of Blitz-Scream. It is a whole new phenomenon in of itself.

    What, a character looking like one bot but being named a totally different one? I don't think that's new at all.

    Yeah... Aesthetics, characterization, names, designs, plot, lore, the actual story and characters... It's absurd how people care for such trivial stuff, right?
