Never said nameslaps were new. I don’t mind them where they’re very obscure characters like Blackout and Barricade.

Straight from Travis Knight. If you can't see the similarities to the seekers then I don't know what to tell you (that's basically saying the designers did a terrible job), and of course the coloration of Starscream makes it even more misleading.

He's homaging one group of G1 characters while using the name of an entirely different G1 character? Why? Why not use a seeker name, or a new name? I just don't get that decision.

I personally don't care if the movie designs do or don't resemble their G1 designs. A seemingly random name won't ruin the movie for me, IF it's a good movie. My complaints about the Bay films never revolved around the bot designs. But i still stand by this being a strange choice. It would have been like having movie 'Swipe be red, then saying he's really Sunstreaker, or having Prime be called Motormaster...but homaging Prime's appearance. Given everything Knight has said, with the seekers being the inspiration for the design, he had to know people would mistake it for Starscream.

 

The point is that pretending hes some super accurate g1 design that could only every be starscream is ridiculous considering all the very not g1 elements there are

 

...Would it not have been better to make a Blitzwing that looks like Blitzwing? He's a very famous Decepticon in his own right.

Absolutely. They could have made it another character (in fact they did), but the seekers were clearly their inspiration, copying some very important design elements. Pretending this design is more reminiscent of Blitzwing, or at the very least, wouldn't confuse fans, is ridiculous imo.

Yeah, but maybe it was a choice of having one or the other and he wanted both so he combined the two.

 

But that triple changing ability is pretty unique and special. I don't want to hear about it that soon. I usually find it interesting if my expectations are subverted a little.

Maybe for us, this is agony because we've ignored pretty much other stuff that was revealed like Optimus's presence, the potential Cybertron backstory etc.

For the general public who have little knowledge... They don't care too much bout this. They want to see robots punch each other. But cool thing is there's more to that in this film compared to others.

Using the Scorn concept art as an avatar is very suspect to me.

I was hoping it wasn't Starscream. I have a terrible feeling all the Cons die in the movie, and if this is a reboot, I don't think it would be a terribly good idea to have Starscream die it in lol.

I'm hardly delusional. If you think the attempt to meld the existing lore with the new take isn't why they win, fine. You have an different opinion, and that's ok.

Conversely, all Geewunners criticize the movies...and everything else.    

Albeit there are heavy rumors circulating that they could be looking to repurpose this movie into a reboot, currently it is only confirmed to be a prequel, and as a prequel, it is in continuity with the first 5 movies. As such, this being Starscream is equally nonsensical because Starscream in this universe never looked like this ever.

I also didn't grow up with G1, and I personally think it's not as bad as everyone is making it out to be.

Imma find a definition somewhere of the word "Nameslap" and post it here every time I see it used, I swear. This isn't the G1 Universe, characters are allowed to be different. And for more, see my next response below this one...

The Thrilling 30 Blitzwing toy, which I'm 99% sure is based off of an IDW design for him (can't remember seeing that design in the comics, but they were doing comic designs in that line, sooo...), looks suspiciously like a Seeker-ish body type. It's not that far of a stretch that perhaps Blitzwing was a Seeker design at one point, then "volunteered" to undergo some "Triple-Changer" upgrade. Even if he's not, more than likely they'll never state anything to contradict that idea, so it could still be used as justification.

I want that in toy form from the Titans Return toy, but with the Headmaster gimmick neutered!!!  

As I said above, there are heavy rumors, based on some things said by those in the movie and those who are higher-up's behind the movie, that it could potentially be repurposed into a reboot movie. Yes, it's not confirmation, but there's plenty of things that happened in this franchise before that no one expected to happen!  

 

I apologize for the confusion. I had seen somewhere (perhaps here on TFW) that the jet we saw WAS Starscream. So i went along with that. That proved to be "fake news" when it was revealed that the bot we saw in the trailer was actually Blitzwing....the tweet i said about Blitzwing being in the movie got mixed up with everything else..sorry about that
