Yep. And even if Travis Knight turns this into a fairly enjoyable movie, I'm hesitant to support it, after Lorenzo's interview where he threatened with years of spinoffs to spinoffs and sequels to spinoffs down the line, if this succeeds. Why would anyone want this future of life support for the franchise?

Personally I'm hoping that the film hits that sweet spot where it makes just enough money for it to not be a blotch on Knight's resume, since the guy genuinely seems to care about this project, but not enough that Paramount can justify making more sequels in the current continuity, because FUCK Lorenzo.

Actually... Same here. That would be the best possible outcome. Can I say, it's a fairly realistic prediction as well?

So long as there's this fustercluck of films all around the same date, it is highly likely.

I honestly don't know why Hasbro and Paramount are not changing it. I can't see a scenario where Aquaman doesn't at least get 500m. Every DCEU movie has made at least that much, so even if Aquaman underperforms I can't imagine it flopping for less than that. Even if the movie is as bad as the previous entries in the DCEU that are not Wonder Woman, Aquaman still has a built in audience for it just from being a DC property. Fighting a film like Aquaman is an easy way to lose at least 100m in box office revenue, but then there is... Everything else. Poppins and the Spider Man movie the week before can peel off child and family audiences, and in the case of Battle Angel Alita somehow managing to not flop (I love the manga but have no idea if this adaptation will be good), then it might peel off scifi-oriented audiences.

The december box office is on fire and Paramount is thinking, "This is fine" while drinking tea. I guess they're so confident that because this film was built on a shoestring (People will totally watch giant robot movies that only have four giant robots right? Right?) that they can't lose anything even if the film fails...

I mean Justice League being able to get that $600 million and above overall was tough. And even if they're not DCEU related movies, DC movies do have a track record of not doing well. Superman Returns, Green Lantern just to name a few. So saying they have a built in audience is no different than Transformers having their built in audience from whatever (G1, UT, 2007 movie etc.)

As for Mary Poppins, I'm looking at 28K likes at its Twitter page for its trailer and Bumblebee having 39K on the other hand. But who knows how it will turn out.

Anime/manga films historically kind of don't do well and I'm not betting too much with Alita Battle Angel. I thought Ghost in the Shell would do okay but it turned out to be wrong for me. Plus despite looking like it has nice visuals (same thing with Ghost in the Shell), I don't know what audiences could expect from this. Is it a full on adventure movie or is it a movie that requires you to use your brain to piece what's going on?

Reasonably I think Spider-Man has the best chance out of all them with the vibrant animation and stuff. So there's me being realistic. But I don't want to think the other films are ultimately box office failures because of this.

Honestly, I had actually forgotten about Superman Returns and to a lesser degree Green Lantern, mostly because they predate the DCEU, so fair enough.

And yeah, I also expect Alita to bomb, I just don't think its impossible for it to be a hit, just highly improbable. Especially considering that in the last, what, 2 years alone, expensive high concept scifi movies like Blade Runner 2049, Ghost in the Shell, and Valerian not only failed but completely flopped. Not one of them even reached 300m.

Did we ever find out why Bumblebee got moved from June, or was it the same scenario with too much competition?

Mary Poppins I think is the only definite threat as it has a wider appeal (as most Disney films do), but you just never know what the public will do.

Looks like WB is sticking to their guns judging from the Aquaman poster.

Me personally I don't think Mary Poppins will beat Bumblebee, I don't understand how someone would want to watch something that's the same but re filmed into a newer version? it's pointless ,but that's just me.

Because that is what humanity has done since the dawn of time? How do you think that Bumblebee is going to differ?

You could say the same about Bumblebee, it's just the first movie again. I'm looking forward to it!

I don't really get first movie vibes from the bumblebee film apart from a few things such as what you're saying because it technically is the first movie.

The main relationship of the film being Bumblebee and a teen who acquires a beat up car who then learns it's an alien robot probably has something to do with it.

    Just saw the Aquaman trailer...

It was gorgeous. I'm super hyped.

I'm also more convinced than before that Bumblebee will underperform.
