It'll be a comic for an unrelated franchise. IDW isn't publishing only TF books. It's more of a general comic books news than Transformers comic books news. Doesn't look like Barber is on this project at all.

Good. Gobots has a lot of cool designs.
    A relaunch could be cool.
Something less campy than the cartoon, but more coherent than TF vs Joe might be cool.

Plot twist: the Gobots created and deployed Unicron to eradicate the Transformers so that they could rule the galaxy once more! And it's working, too.

I don't voice this concern openly often because it attracts white knights like you wouldn't believe but I've always seen the "creative" industry as more of a clique and less of a meritocracy. These people all know each other and promote each other and it's really difficult to catch a break if you aren't friends with somebody. It's like how Rob Liefeld keeps getting work. There are millions of artists out there who can actually draw humans (including their feet) and most of them go exactly nowhere because there's a network of people that keep promoting this (The 40 Worst Rob Liefeld Drawings):

You guys are going to want cartoon accuracy & DEAR GOD NO! I love the Gobots but the cartoon was horrible & totally fucked up a lot of the characters especially Leader-1 & Scooter. Even when I was a kid the cartoon was almost unwatchable. What they did to Ramjet, Thrust & Dirge makes me sick (coneheads) but the Gobots took it to a whole new level. Leader-1 with a human face is 100% unacceptable. And my favorite character Cop-Tur? I love the Gobots toys but I'm trying to forget the cartoon.

That picture of Leader-1 on the front page looks like the Silver Surfer with goggles. Doesn't even look like a robot.

I like robots! I only collect robots. I like my robots to look like robots. If they look like humans what's the point?

People with good taste. So yeah, not for everyone.

By giving it to the guy who made by far the best and most interesting Transformers comic since IDW got the license. A guy who actually has some imagination. Can't wait.

There are parts of TF vs. GI Joe that I really liked, like the Springfield/Scorponok issue and the Destro origin tale, but a lot of the issues suffered from being paced way too fast. If the pacing is better, I am all for this new series.

Could be fun, and better than the majority of IDW's shit at the moment.

    I'll give it a chance.

Good for those that want this, but my feelings on Gobots are best summed up with this:

Hasbro should just add them to the Autobots and Decepticons already. Save me from having to kitbash them into existence.

If it had been anyone else other than Tom Scioli I would have been hyped.

But now it feels like Gobots one shot at a comeback, is going to be undermined by "art" that is shit.

Gobots has and should retain its own mythology.

Scioli is the only person that would make me hyped. Anyone else at IDW, and it would be the same bland, unimaginative waste of time as the other Hasbro properties they've tried to add in the last couple years.

It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who has consumed their fare of fiction that the entertainment industry has been corrupt to the core for centuries.

lol. Neither of you know what you're talking about. Liefeld is one of the most hated figures within the comics industry. He's burned more bridges than a dragon in a Hobbit movie. He's so disliked that Marvel went through a brief period where they tried not to use Cable or Deadpool, because someone high up so hated the idea of paying him royalties. That's on record. So that's not how he keeps getting work. And comparing Liefeld to Scioli is disingenuous at best. He's more like a Veitch or someone. It's hilarious you two think Scioli got TF vs Joe because he's friends with someone.

Also, there's a lot more to comic art than being able to "actually draw humans." It's not even the most important factor.

Scioli is like the perfect choice for a comic about the Gobots. For one, the Gobots style-wise (be it the cartoon or the actual toys) have always been quite different from the Transformers, who were always depicted a bit more realistically. They shoot beams out of their hands and fly like they're superheroes/villains, regularly break the rules of mass shifting to where Groove being a leg on a combiner with other cars and a helicopter look absolutely right by comparison. So (to me) it just seems to be a no-brainer to have someone like Scioli do this series who can nail the saturday morning adventure fare but maybe not quite as dumbed down.

As much of a mech head that I am where I prefer my bots look like something out of Macross/Gundam, I appreciate Scioli on Gobots a lot more than I would on something like Transformers.

I don’t think you know what you’re talking about dude. Leifeld doesn’t get paid royalties for any of his work from marveL. That’s kind of the reason he and all the image guys started image. They had zero ownership of characters they created. They don’t get anything.

Marvel tried to stop using certainty characters because they didn’t have the movie license for those characters but deadpool and cable were not part of them. They were characters like certainly X-men and fantastic four.

And that’s claimed to be in record than that record is wrong. Most of those guys have lawsuits under them for that very topic but not for marvel characters. It’s becuase they themselves didn’t even want to pay royalties to people who created characters for them at image.
