That's blowing it a bit ot of proportion. Definitely SOME visual similarities, but let's not pretend they created a real life G1 Starscream and then took him away from us.

It always seemed (if you were paying attention) that they were giving us a G1 nod with the design, rather than a full on fan-wank.

 

It's not so much that it's Blitzwing looking like G1 Starscream (since if you discount the colors, he actually kinda does in robot mode such that Takara made the Starscream repaint of the T30 Voyager that wasn't half bad looking) then it is the fact this film has Triple changers in it and Blitzwing, one of the most well known of that exclusive group, is NOT one in the films.

That's like taking Optimus Prime and making him turn into anything other than a red truck of some kind.

they managed to break my heart. that was the only reason why I would go to see the movie, Starscream. But if its not him, I\'ll wait until DVD is released then see it.

"Hey guys, you know what will really make fans want to see this movie? Designing a character that unmistakably invokes another character, tell them it's a character that has its own iconic look, but then turn around and have it end up being the character it looks like?"

I can't follow the logic, but I also fail to see the logic in making a character that definitely looks like what fans expect in a Starscream design, and not realizing they're going to he pissed when you tell them it's not. Let alone telling them it's Blitzwing. Let alone saying Blitzwing looks like Starscream because the Seekers shared his appearance, when Blitzwing has never (to my knowledge) been regarded as a Seeker.

It's like unveiling a live action Spider-Gwen that looks like Venom and Carnage, and then saying she looks that way because all the spider symbiotes share similar design language. Feck that makes my head hurt just imagining that happening.

It's a foregone conclusion that Starscream was on Earth prior to the first movie. I can see no reason, nor anticipate any plot point, that would require them to incur negative fan reaction for the sake of secrecy and surprise.

 

All of this seems familiar somehow...

Stop parading around with your team blitzwing stuff when you had no clue it was Blitzwing and just switched to that when it was announced

Couple of points here:

If you think Blitzwing and Optimus Prime are on the same tier as far as character relevancy goes, you're nuts.

There are millions of kids out there who are going to see this iteration of Blitzwing and think "oh man, that is a really cool robot!" It does absolutely nothing to take anything away from previous versions of the character. Those all still exist and you can enjoy them as much tomorrow as you did yesterday. No one has taken anything away from you, and to throw a fit about it is ludicrous.

 

Wouldn’t it be funny, if when the final film is released his name is changed to Dropbox or some or crappy name like that?
Someone would need to change teams, I guess.

Yeah at this point I dont think theyre gonna turn around and say “ITS STARSCREAM SURPRISE”
But maybe theyll change the colors or design, who knows

They have always and will always reuse names as they see fit for a variety of reasons, be it trademark, the characters being diffrent or what ever.
