I get the impression they frankensteined the TLK mold to create 2018 Bee. The door/front wheel section looks extremely similar. It's unfortunate, because I really like the BB2018 design and this toy doesn't capture it's look very well.

    Man, all the negativity here.

Well, it's got me optimistic because I am excited. I was already pumped about the Vol. 1 set. I've been waffling about SS Bumblebee for a while, and getting it in gold with two combining Dino-Cassettes? That had me sold.

And then Vol. 2 looks even better because the VW mold looks amazing, and compounds the odds I'll be able to get the Dino-Cassettes?

As someone who has had massive burnout on these figures (I think Sqweeks was the only TLK figure I bought? Wait no, I did get Nitro Zeus), the fact that I'm suuuuuuuuuper excited for either of these two sets is huge.

This seems to be evidence of similar designs, shared engineering. There does not seem to be any evidence of shared parts.

To me, "retool" or "remold", mean shared parts. Not simply similar designs/engineering. G1 Jazz and G1 Prowl share similar transformation schemes. They are not retools or remolds of each other.

Two pack bumblebee's back pack is mistransformed, it should collapse one more fold in like the Gold version has, but otherwise, these are really growing on me more and more.

Why are people surprised that the Movie design that cheats like absolute hell to the point of making the gigantic doors disappear in robot mode had a wonky first try at an accurate toy?

The doors are on his back, folded over at least once.

So like... aside from all that, what's the difference between this Bee and dinotape pack and the one on HTS as a SDCC exclusive? Is the one in these pics going to be wide-release or something? Sorry if someone already said, but there's a lot of stuff in this thread. XD

If definitely uses most of the same transformation as TLK Bee and Studio Series Camaro Bee, just the legs are different. I don't why people are arguing what the technical definition of a retool is (if Hasbro even has one), I think we all know what's being referred to.

The doors on his back aren't REMOTELY the right size and shape compared to the rest of his body in the movie model.

The SDCC Exclusive uses the Studio Series Camaro figure and the cassettes have different decos. That one's vol. 1 this one's vol. 2. No idea yet about availability though

you might be right, but it's all backwards. What's been great about the Studio Series to date is that it's been about revisiting designs where the toys were rushed out wrong.

The best of the bunch so far is the Legends/Legion class equivalent. I wasn't happy about the flat false chest of the deluxe equivalent, but everyone said wait for the studio series.

Yeah, that's the problem, all the BB toys would've been designed a year ago using initial concept art. Really they should avoid making design changes once submitted to the toy manufacturers, but I guess it's not the priority.

How come when the toy designers pose these toys to showcase the work they've put into it, the pose is usually somewhere between an apathetic shrug and cheesey, old timey monster movie? Like, Bee looks like he's wobbling away from a mod like the Frakenstein monster.

Geez Louise, Hasbro, learn how pretend robots move properly! Anyway, this dude looks lanky af compared to the trailer Bee. He looks kinda meh on first impression.

I don't think the toy designers are involved, otherwise the gross and routine mistransformations certainly wouldn't happen frequently. I think it's a whole different department who really isn't that in to these things (or else on a horrible time crunch).

Lots to like, but if only the door wings could have folded away, as others have said. I love the new movie design, so I just have to keep my fingers crossed for a faithful MPM version. Aside from the doors and the back kibble, this is a decent first stab, though. You can see that an MPM version could hide those rear wheels away inside the large calves, and concentrate on tidying up the back.

Entertainment Earth is selling the Beetle as well. Probably onsite at SDCC but also on their website. It's REALLY expensive, mine came out to about $70 after shipping.
And the Website is slow and buggy as hell (probably flooded with orders). But I managed to order one.

Website release seems to be October. So maybe they aren't available onsite at SDCC(?) I dunno.

Yeah i don't think it's an SDCC exclusive per se, but an Entertainment Earth exclusive maybe. Though one of the online sellers in the UK has it up for presale, also for October.

As a follow up - Although I'm more than a little embarrassed that i just paid $70 for dumb deluxe that's going to be shelfwarming everywhere in about 2 months.
I'm fine with it not being completely ON MODEL with the movie.
I love Bee and I love the VW. I'll pretty much buy any VW transformer (come on blue or white repaints! Glyph/Bugbite for lyfe! Also Wasp but I think he looks better as a CJ remold)

So when they re-do it in a year, I'll be happy to have that one too.

Lets be honest, all have multiple versions of every character anyway, and most of them aren't "accurate" to anything specific, right?

I love the deluxe Bumblebee so much. I can't wait to get my hands on it. I don't understand why some people are saying he doesn't look like the movie design. I mean, all toys take liberties. I actually feel like this toy captures the look very well. The biggest departure from the film design are the wings. And who knows, they might be visible at some points in the film, we've only seen a couple minutes of footage so far. We also haven't seen his gun or sword yet.

I also love the amount of accessories. My only real gripe are the wheels on the knees and the rather skinny legs. I hope the wheels can be swiveled down to bulk up the lower legs, that would be perfect.
