I've got Daizyuzin and he is awesome. Can't wait for Dragon Ceasar.

With that said, I've got a Mazinger Z unopened I won at a charity auction the director to one of the shows had and he autographed the box, but I really don't have any interest in owning a figure of him (it came with some other stuff like a theatrical sized poster I wanted), so it just collects dust. Maybe I should open him up one day just to see if he is any good.

on average yes they are worth the prices, aside from some usually well known issues with a few of them the general quality really has to be experienced to be appreciated, if you are on the fence it is worth actually touching one just to see if it something you really want to invest in. A few years ago I took danguard ace to a meet up, one guy was smitten by the quality and bought one soon after. There is just a level of polished intricacy that even MP transformers do not have,

I'm still tempted by SOC megazord, I have voltron which I feel is superlative so am a bit afraid he might not quite measure up but I am a big fan of the megazord design overall and have legacy and vintage versions. Before he inevitably sell out maybe I should go for it!

In all honesty, while the SoC Daizyujin/Megazord isn't bad by any means, it's definitely underwhelming when compared side-to-side with SoC Golion/Voltron.

Whereas Voltron had plenty of "OMG! I can't believe they managed to do something like this!!" moments while handling him, there definitely isn't any of that with Megazord.
Megazord feels like they took the vintage one, added a bunch of additional joints for a bit more articulation and a tad bit more of show-accuracy, but it really feels like it could've been more. There's even some things that I feel that it does worse than the vintage DX Megazord toy.

If you go in expecting it to be on par with Voltron, it won't be. *for frame of reference, I have the original Megazord, Legacy version, got SOC Voltron before SOC Daizyujin*.

If you LIKE the original and legacy Megazords, you'll probably like the SOC Megazord a lot more than the other 2 toys and might not want to keep them anymore. Just don't expect it to be on par with Voltron. Voltron gives you more for around the same MSRP so that's another reason the Megazord will come up short.

As a MEGAZORD toy, the SOC excels. Easily a 7-8/10. As an SOC, it falls short. It doesn't come with a base to display not store all the extras(admittedly not much) and whatever I mentioned in my previous post.

You are in the same position I was in before I got my SOC Megazord.

I went back in time to collect the tv version of the SPEC Eva units and for a 10 year old toy it's still pretty good, so much so I'm going after Rei and Asuka's units. The only real limitation is in the lateral shoulder and hip movement, but they're not bad for the time. So far these are the last TV style EVA figures and all we get nowadays are the rebuild designs which are little too lanky for my liking. Since there's no angel toys to fight the EVA I had a shield liger that had a crystal core. :D

I think SOC Megazord is a pretty subpar figure. Loose joints, connections are fragile, parts that should lock in don’t, very little diecast, hands barley hold weapons, no moving wheels or treads on the leg bots, Megazord head can’t look up, has balance issues etc.

The paint is nice though lol. Not worth $300 + tax + shipping. I would have been much more forgiving for $200.

Personally I think the original is still the best version. Would have loved it if Bandai just reissued it with new show accurate stickers but I guess that will never happen now.

It's been beaten to death, but the SOC Megazord really does lack the polish that Voltron got.

Absolutely. As a total package I still think it's the best Megazord toy.

It's strange how much of a drop in quality there is between the two, especially considering they are the same price point. Voltron is so well engineered, is larger, has more diecast, comes with a lot of accessories and is a beautiful display piece a long with being a solid toy.

He was pretty cheap too, like $30-$40.

Not opening this till the end of the weekend, but I was surprised to see this at SDCC. Picked up the last one for the day, apparently. 20180719_183031.jpg

They were trying to push it to coincide with the release of the Power Rangers movie weren't they? Either way, it's disheartening to actually see that it didn't get the development time that Golion and Gaogaigar got for their SOCs.

Well they actually had the team that developed the original Megazord design it. I don’t think it’s a case of lack of development time they got what they were going for; an updated version of that toy but still evoked that toy.
I personally hate it and wish they approached it differently but I can accept they did what they intended to do....

They were TOO focused on simply making a better version of the original toy and not focused on making a modern Soul of Chogokin.

Possible but I don't think it was rushed. Said to be designed by the designer of the original DX Daizyujin. Whereas SOC Golion had been rumored to be ready to go for display at SDCC since 2010 but held back due to licensing and worked on even more after the fact(Julian Oreska said the goal for the black lion was to shove as much diecast metal as they could into it). So aside from time spent on design, you also possibly have 1 designer working on Daizyujin whereas Golion likely was designed by a team.

Had Daizyujin been released just as a new Masterpiece Legacy toy rather than an SOC release, it probably would've been received better because it would only be compared to previous iterations(DX, previous Legacy release) and those who only bought it because it was an SOC release wouldn't have expected it to measure up to SOC Golion because they probably wouldn't have bought it.

It's why I've stated that for a fan of the original Megazord, personally I like the SOC and see no reason to own the original nor Legacy versions outside of nostalgia. However anyone expecting it to be on par with SOC Golion is setting themselves up for disappointment. I think it's a worthy addition to the lion but Golion raised the bar and so far it arguably hasn't been surpassed.

I agree. It’s comfortably the worst SOC in the last ten years. Is Daioja’s combined mode worse? Perhaps but at least the combination is interesting. I seriously despise Megazord. But I have seen enough people^ in this thread wax nostalgic about it being an updated DX or whatever that I assume it’s just me being a bitch. I guess if it was some quirky older unknown bot I would give it more of a pass but this is a pretty famous bot.

Oh come on, now you're being silly. Goldymarg is objectively worse.

That's where the problem lies. Voltron and Megazord coming out for SOC should have been the ultimate one-two punch of nostalgic delight and willing wallet destruction. Instead we got the incredible "one" with Voltron, but then Megazord slipped right into a Dempsey roll.
