Then I'd go for the SDCC/HK version.

Thx for the feedback ... do you know off-hand if the SDCC/HK version has the same floppy knee syndrome as the regular retail Hasbro version? That’s the only thing putting me off ...

Good news. I remember seeing stacks of this guy at Costco right before Christmas when he originally came out. Always regretted passing up on him.

...conversely, i went for the SDCC version first, but then subsequently decided to pick up the legends version when it was reissued this spring...being a huge fan of the original G1 toy, i thought the SDCC chrome would clinch the decision, but in retrospect takara's detailing and color scheme scratched that itch more definitively for me...

...i haven't opened mine to set up yet, so i can't offer a knee comparison between the two versions...

Are there any plans for a Titans Return/Legends Metroplex?

What do you mean? This TakaraTOMY Metroplex Reissue is the TakaraTOMY Generations Metroplex released under the TakaraTOMY Legends toy line.

I keep hearing it is not quite in scale with nor is it the true TR counterpart to TR Trypticon.

...those are pedantic comments you're overhearing: titans return trypticon is absolutely a counterpart to generations metroplex and fortress maximus, both, and the only real complaints are folks wishing trypticon had scaled slightly taller than the humanoid titans' shoulders and that takara had offered trypticon with an enhanced decoration scheme like they did for earlier figures...

...legends metroplex, fortress maximus, grand maximus, and trypticon are all recent issues produced to the same design, scale, and toyline standards, unchanged since the original thrilling 30 metroplex established the modern titan class...devastator and predaking, by contrast, are kind of junior-titan combiners by comparison to those four city-bots...

...if you're asking whether metroplex will be retooled to incorporate titan master features, no, i don't think any ressues with that play-pattern gimmick are under consideration: trypticon is kind of an anomaly in that regard only because he was shoehorned into the titans return decepticon slot instead of scorponok, not unlike all the contemporaneous titans return figures who had no business becoming headmasters, either...

...if anything, the next hasbro titans are likely to be omega supreme and scorponok, incorporating whichever gimmicks-du-jour happen to be promoted at the time of their release, but every bit compatriots to the previous four generations citybots despite inconsistent gimmicks across the line...

It is, people saying that are being pedantic because titans return trypticon is a bit shorter than metroplex. Generations is not about replicating sunbow scale 100% accurately

I had the SDCC/HK version. I didn't think the legs were floppy. The joints had standard fitness. I didn't have problems posing him.

People unsatisfied with how the current Metroplex and Trypticon scale to each other are people who want them to be eye to eye. This isn't going to happen because of Trypticon's different build and posture, as well as Hasbro's constraints on the amount of plastic they can use for each price point.
So if you are fine with Metroplex and Trypticon "simply" looking good as proper rivals, despite one of them being shorter, you'll be fine with the current Metroplex. Don't wait for a new version that won't come out in years, if ever, and will likely be the same size as this one.

you can check previous page (page 14) for comparison pictures, metroplex is obviously ok and in scale, just a head above trypticon.

As others have said, they work fairly well together. I would say both have the same overall mass, it’s just that Trypticon carries a lot of it in his tail. I keep mine in a more aggressive pose so the height difference doesn’t bother me.

For those who have Metroplex, I see there is an upgrade kit for him. Which version does the upgrade apply to?
