Hello all, I am a bit of a TF Prime fan, and particularly of the Prime incarnation of Megatron. As such, I decided that I fancied a leader class scale Megatron, leading to the heaviest custom job I have ever attempted: First I bought this chap, both for the headsculpt, transformation and general shape (apologies for the stock pic, forgot to take a photo before I started). Chopped him up a touch, then went to town with some modelling putty, followed by a failed attempt at dyeing him: Switching to the spray paint brought me this: Then I broke out the proper paints: And a little more paint has finished him off: Oh and he does transform into... a thing with wings... At the end of the day, I am quite happy with him. My first time using putty, so its not as smooth as it might be and the transformation suffered for bot mode. Alot. But having never attempted anything this challenging before, I am rather pleased.
Nice work. But I'd have to say the leg being so thin or the chest being so wide take your pick, makes it look a bit too barrel chested.
Cheers ! I agree, I did thicken up the lower legs a bit, but in retrospect not nearly enough, and his thighs are much too skinny. If I were to do it again I would make the legs a lot wider and blockier, both to better balance him and make him more proportionate. Clearly Megs skips leg day...
Interesting use of putty. The sculpting overall for a first attempt is pretty good. This was a very ambitious custom for starting out. I like it!
Many thanks! Yep, I do tend to jump in a tad at the deep end, may have to refine my putty skills and have another crack some day, the silver paint really shows up the roughness in places that were not apparent when he just had the grey undercoat.
I Deffinitly gotta appreciate the ambition, though it might have been too ambitious for a first try, it came out pretty rough looking and is definitely compromised. But this is your first try, i really hope you can improve on future works, you definitely have the drive to get stuff done.
This is good! I don’t want to seem harsh or overly critical, because this is very good, but I would recommend sanding down the putty to give it a less “sloppy” look. I’ve never done intense customs, so take everything I say with a grain of salt.
You are both absolutely right, I think that I was overly ambitious taking on a project of this magnitude, the more that I look at him, the greater the temptation to rip him apart and start again. I am wondering if a coat of liquid green stuff and a re-paint might smooth him out, can anyone advise?
Well, the more I looked at him, the more I got pissed, and the more I drank beer the more I got pissed, and the upshot is that Megs now sports a layer of green stuff over his bumpier bits. Updated photos to follow....
