The End of the Beginning of the World

    Spotlight: Megatron

    ...oi!..

...ryan, get back here so we can discuss these two issues; there's even a nice prose piece to wrap up volume three...

    Hi everyone,

Prompted by a PM by @Omegashark18 I thought I'd better post a bit of an update here.

Sadly I don't have time these days to post here as often as I'd like... most of my activity here is whilst I'm on my lunch break at work.

I'm sorry to say this but unfortunately I'm unable to press on with this project - It's a shame, but sadly sometimes real life gets in the way.

Nothing to do with the quality of the comics (I'm still able to read them on my commute), or with you guys - but situations change and all of a sudden I've found myself with a lot less free time to give.

That said, I do want to praise everyone who's either read or contributed to this thread. I know TFW2005 has a bit of a bad reputation within fandom, but I couldn't ask to meet a lovelier set of people than those who passed comment here. To you, a heartfelt thank you.

    Till all are one.

Words can’t describe how bummed out I am about this. :(

I always enjoyed reading your reviews.

And to think, you stopped when the comics were really getting good.

At least you’ve been reading them. I wish you could at give a general consensus of each series and major arc.

Well, hopefully you’ll get to the end of it all eventually. And to that, I say good luck. :)

I don't really post, but I check this thread regularly. Thanks for the well-written reviews of all these issues thus far. Wish you could finish the reviews someday, but I'm glad we got what we did.

This thread has been one of the best so far that I've read/participated in. Everyone has been courteous and respectful, and i think a lot of that stems from such well written and thought out reviews... thank you Ryan - I'm gonna call it an indefinate hiatus for now, and glad its 'just' life making you busy rather than anything more... sinister.
Regardless of whether you manage to finish the project in the future I hope you enjoy the rest of the books.

Agreed, I'm sorry to hear confirmation that things have turned out that way- every time I've checked my inbox here I've found myself wondering if the thread was over, and I'm sorry to hear that it is. It's a rare thing to see anything resembling an "objective stance" on the IDW comics, and I always found that you offered a new perspective on stories for which the "consensus" had already been seemingly reached. As far as I remember, every criticism or compliment you've paid these issues has been absolutely spot on, though I may personally disagree with a few of your final scores ;)

It's been a pleasure following along, and if circumstances change and you find yourself with the time to share your thoughts on the rest of the run... I'm sure we'll still be here. I don't really frequent the rest of the forums, in part due to the reputation you speak of, but I think in this little thread there's been a real atmosphere of positivity and openness.

Thanks for all your words, Ryan. I don't know you, but I wish you the best wherever life takes you.

Just wanted to echo others sentiments on how much I’ve enjoyed this thread and how sad I am Ryan no longer has time to keep it going. I’d also regularly check for updates of this thread and was always excit3d to see a new review. Bloody real life! :)

Thanks Ryan for all your hard work over the last couple of years. Please if you ever get chance try and just tell us your opinion on some of the books you haven’t covered, obviously you don’t have time for the detailed reviews but even just a issue x to y were enjoyable but z was a comedown and liked or disliked what was done with such and such a character would be interesting to me if you ever get time.

    All the best anyways mate...

Very sad to hear you no longer have time Ryan, especially now that you’ve come to the couple of years in IDW TF fiction I think was ira high point. Would’ve loved to read more of your insights!

But yes, life does get in the way and there’s not much one can do about it, I’m sure reviewing comics is not high on the priority list. Thank you for what has been an awesome thread and all the best to you! :thumb

I echo everyone's sentiments. Although the comic forum sometimes has the most vocal critics and defenders of IDW, I always felt this thread was civil and it was nice to look back on past stories with Ryan. I very much appreciated the fulsome reviews and thoughtful analysis. Cheers to a great thread, and as DJ Convoy mentioned above, no apologies needed. We were getting a free ride down memory lane!! :)

I'm sorry for not being around for this thread during its final days, but I have fond memories of reading your reviews and reading the issues alongside you. I hope all goes well for you in life man. :)

Thanks Ryan. Loved reading your take on the IDW comics, which were always thought provoking and insightful.
Hope the rl commitments are all the good, satisfying, kind rather than the oppressive grind that 'adult' life commitments can be.

    Oh god damnit.

And most of you know what I'm going to say,,,,

    You quit before Overlord!?!

Seriously I'll admit after that, things sorta become unhinged in LL. I'm one of the people that actually liked Windblade but I could see wanting to not start that arc at all.

And RID kinda becomes a mess after a while, sure "President Starscream" starts there but it isn't until Margrid Scott starts writing the character that he really becomes a tragic character. But a lot of that Prowl was controlled by Bombshell and Prowlestator and Optimus Quits were some ugly false starts.

I guess I'm also mad because they're flushing the continuity, and in retrospect there were some real rotten eggs. The quantum twin ship, the functionist universe, and whatever the hell Prime was doing after Dark Cybertron.

("Sure let's write Prime out of the book. We've killed him how many times now? No, this time we're REALLY serious! Seriously! What will the books be about? Oh Prime just moping around not being Prime. What? You think we should spend more time focusing on other characters? C'mon be serious! We have toys to sell. Hey do you think we can give Sam Witwicky his own book? Maybe we can do a Megan Fox limited series too! What? That's not the character's name? Does anyone really care? Just 22 pages of pinups a month, with I dunno some dialogue or something. Is Greg Land still available?")

    *deep breath*

Anyway really sucks that you never made it to the two issues that really made the whole series worth reading.

Well that and Starscream, did he at least get to the Scavengers?

    Shit.
