Hello all. I've got a quick question that I hope people lucky enough to own various iterations of Fans Toys FT-08 Grinder will be able to help me with.

I've got a reissue of Grinder on pre-order, and I'm quite keen on him having red eyes. I understand that the basic Grinder comes with both red and blue eyes for both modes.

I also quite like the look of the additional G1 Dino Head, but I gather that this only comes with blue eyes. I'm also told that the red eyes from the original dinosaur head won't fit the G1 head.

I'm currently considering buying the FT-08X G1 Dino Head and swapping the red eyes out of that into the FT-08 G1 Dino Head.

Has anyone else done this? Can it be achieved without damaging the heads?

I don't see why that would not work. The FT-08X G1 Dino Head and the FT-08 G1 Dino Head are the same mold. Just different paint.

However, That is a pretty expensive suggestion for just eye color. You might just consider repainting the eye insert from blue to red.

 

The eyes are definitely swappable on the G1 head. The only part that isn't swappable is the 2nd brow piece that comes with Grinder, and is meant to give him a more angry expression. That piece can't be used on the G1 head. But the eye pieces are exactly the same, except for the color.

Edit: or am I wrong? Now I'm doubting myself.

Can anyone who actually owns the G1 Dino Head tell me whether the eyes are even a separate removable piece?

 

Hey, I do own it, and yes, the eyes are a separate and removable piece, just like the default head. But I was wrong about them being compatible. It had been a while since I looked at mine, and I was confused. The eyes on the G1 head are shaped slightly differently.

 

Send a message to Fans Toys and ask if it will work and if they will be able to sell the eye piece to you. Otherwise, yes, just paint.

Sadly I don't trust my painting abilities enough to try that. You're right about contacting Fans Toys maybe being worth a go, however - it can be difficult to get a response out of them, but they've helped me out with replacement bits for FT-10 Phoenix in the past. Thanks for the suggestion!

 

I'm pleased to report that my FT-08 Grinder has arrived. It turns out that both the regular and silver versions of the optional G1 head come packaged with swappable blue and red eyes after all - I'd been led to believe that they didn't.




My Grinder now has what from my point of view is the correct combination: the G1 head with red eyes!




The unopened and unnecessary silver head can now go back to the seller.

Just got mine. Still comes with both eyes. Very nice. The Grinder head grew on me, though and almost want to put it back as it looks fierce especially with the Trex angry brow thing going on. And the teeth!
