Your post prompted me to check my order history, and somehow I bought the Armada Unicron from "Toysrus.com, LLC" through Amazon in 2003 for $39.99, and the 25th anniversary one for $59.99 in 2011. Unless there's something unique to this one, I think I'll be passing on it.

That version went for $4,400 in 2010, it's probably a bit more nowadays. On the other hand, minicon collecting has been fading in popularity, probably because of the disastrous CHUG and RID molds...

No more of this Armada Unicron re-release crap. most of us are sick of it at this point.

 

I'm not ruling this out, but you can grab a more-or-less complete Armada Unicron off eBay for roughly the same price, so I don't feel like it really needs a reissue. But I guess if it's between a second hand Unicron and a brand new one in box for a similar price, I'll go with the new one. Maybe. Well see.

Hasbro/Takara saw how completely INSANE toy collectors are & the completely INSANE prices they pay on ebay & said "Hey! Wait a minute! Look how much these INSANE bastards are willing to pay! They just piss all their money away on little chunks of plastic. We want that! We need to start charging 500x what we normally would. We'll trick them by putting fancy words on the packaging like "MASTERPIECE", "COLLECTOR'S ITEM", "ADULT COLLECTOR", "PREMIUM", "EXCLUSIVE" & "LIMITED EDITION" & these dumbshits will pay as much as we want. We can charge any crazy number & they'll pay it!"

Remember the Gulf War when gas prices were sky high? Hasbro/Takara jacked all the prices up & blamed the gas prices. Then the gas prices went back down but did the prices on Transformers go back own accordingly? HELL NO!

This is quite silly... why release the toy that EVERYONE got rid off when the Amazon Generations Unicron (which saw re-release a few times) with the proper G1 head was released? I mean, I saw Armada Unicrons sell for as low as 25-30$ at the time...

I forgot that TRU used amazon before they had their own functional website. I’m pretty sure Target did the same thing back in the day if I recall correctly.

 

I'm not sure that Armada Unicron is quite as commonplace in Japan as it is for us in North America. After all, Hasbro released truckloads of the thing on at least three separate occasions, while as far as I know Takara has only released Armada colors Unicron once for Micron Legend. So this may end up being an easier way for Japanese fans to finally get this toy.

Yeah, and ironically TRU taught Amazon that "hey, maybe selling toys online is a pretty good idea".

People also confuse a bunch of Unicrons on clearance at Toys R Us years ago as still being the case now.

 

Who will stock Hasbro’s poor choices for reissues now TRU are gone? So sad.
