No, Red Alert with the fake wheels on the shoulders, like the animation model.

Eh, I'm not into it. I liked the MPs more before they became obsessed with cartoon accuracy.

Consensus? In this fandom? We’ve not yet reached the day when all are one. ;)

The above are all correct, it’s been a progressive shift starting with Red Alert’s shoulder wheels. The most noticeable after that was Smokescreen’s cartoon-accurate head, shoulder cannons, and taillights.

Tracks got a lot of flak for being “too toon”, though Ironhide legs really set some people off.

Oh, and don’t forget Bumblebee’s blue windows. :)

Inferno and Grapple are where we really start seeing the absence of Hasui-style added details and a stricter adherence to a simplified cartoon-style sculpt.

Oh you’re new here...yeeeeeeaaaaah, we don’t really do the whole “consensus” thing.

All jokes aside, no, mainly because it alternated there for a bit. We’d get a hyper toon accurate release like Magnus, followed up by a clearly stylized release like tracks. I’d say it was probably cemented somewhere around inferno.

Whomp, whomp. You go to a sushi restaurant complain about sushi is not your kind of thing. When people look at you funny, you wonder why people don't look at those enjoy the food.

We always see the posts of people saying they hate it... over and over again. I hate things too... but I say it once and move on. It doesn’t need to repeated ad nauseum.

The more I look at it the more I'm really starting not to like it.
The only thing this has going for it are the hidden wheels, smaller grill , and bigger windows.
Its not just the huge backpack that I don't see why an mp 0f this character at this point should have especially when the previous version didn't have one which seems like regression not progression, you would think they would take what worked on the previous version and apply it here while improving on what didn't work.
That big gap around the armpit shoulder area just looks messy and the joint attaching to the arm thin and fragile unless they went back to replicated pistons which would be odd considering no other part of the figure has anything that resembles it.
It also has a noticeable gap on the sides of the chest doors where they are hinged.
It also appears to be a big hinge and pin on the bottom of the grill in robot mode that sticks out with a very noticeable gap.
It looks like it might look good looking at it head on, but not from any other angle.
This would have been a great generations leader optimus prime in fact the grill size and shape in addition to the chest doors look nearly identicle to potp leader optimus, but this doesn't say mp to me.
I might still pick it up down the road after seeing in hand pictures but for now I will hold off and maybe wait and see what version 4 offers.

I'll give you a good deal on mine, I plan to get rid of MP-10 in favor of this one...

Thanks for this. MP-01 actually comes off really well in this comparison, considering how old he is. Man, when people realized the wheels disappeared and the grills swapped, there was so much wonder at the time. I was always in for MP Prime v3 and I do like him, but my one grip looking at him here is that the midsection area just above his waist seems a tad too recessed. That and I’m not entirely convinced his legs are that much tidier/smaller than MP-10 in vehicle mode. In any case, he looks great and will command my autobots when he eventually comes out.

I agree with your assessment except for the order there since Tracks came out before Ironhide ;)  (Ninja'd by Type-R!) You're right that it alternated, MP-09 being super cartoon accurate, MP-10 being a looser interpretation, Laserbeak/Buzzsaw super toon, Bluestreak loose, Smokescreen very toon... Like you say, they went all in with the Fusos and haven't looked back. Thank God. Yet they all still have licensed or at least realistic alts and still all go well enough together. Love it!

Ha, the face sculpt has been the best revelation for me in the recent detailed pic! :)

Interesting you say the plate is too long - we can't even see how long it is! What we do see doesn't look already too long to me, meaning when we see the full thing I'm expecting it to look just right. It's looking like a fantastic rendition of his more square, blocky S2/Movie head to me. In fact it looks damn near identical to that custom near-universally heralded as perfect, except without the unnecessary greeble on the front of the cheek plates, and with the correct number of divisions in the front of the crest - so even better!

I guess you and I see it very differently. I see a face that looks like it’s being squished. The faceplate should be a bit wider in length to offset the length o the head itself.

POTP Optimus did this the best in recent memory, even better than MP10. This is a huge problem with going for a “cartoon accurate” look since G1 had very inconsistent animation. Prime’s head design changed much like the rest of ten cast did; not significantly mind you, but proportions were never consistent. Hopefully we’ll get alternate faces and mouthplates with Optimus like we did with Megatron.

I can acknowledge that the robot mode body is winning me over more. The vehicle mode doesn’t look like a drastic improvement over MP10 (I prefer the silver stripe in the truck mode). The head sculpt looks off to me. Hopefully we’ll get alternate angels and colorized photos in a month or so.

All this "animation changed so much from one frame to another" is nonsense to me. It just needs to work out a head and face that reminds you of the cartoon.
And a customizer hit all the nails on it. See attachment. This is just perfect. It strucks you in the heart. Hope when we will see the final design by takara it will surpass this beauty.

What kind of analogy is that? No one here is saying they don't like collector-grade Tranformers toys. The correct analogy would be going to a sushi restauraunt and complaining their sushi was shit. What else are you gonna do if you love sushi and it's the only sushi place in town? Do we really need a forum that is nothing but "I like it" posts?
You constantly want to be funny yet every time you quote my post you either miss my point or don't make sense.

I think the key point is it has always been a gradual process not just the boom all of a sudden they want to be accurate. I still think they didn't eschew all detailing as the focus trended to more unassuming molded details. Even on Inferno and Grapple there are molded details for the various painted over lights.

At the very least, a forum full of just positive speculation wouldn’t hurt. And you’re right, your analogy fits better. But that results with you arguing with a room full of people who think the sushi is the best on the planet, something that reminds them of just how Mom used to make it. What exactly is the goal here? To change our minds? That’s certainly not happening. It must be to carve out a path so that you can complain and have people rally to you. And I get that, it’s totally human nature to find flaws and attempt to correct them. But come on! We are talking about a lump of plastic! What are you doing here? What am I doing here? What right do either of our opinions have to be valid and respected by others? We just can’t, or rather shouldn’t, be taking something like this so seriously. If you really want to complain about something, go find an actually important issue to fix. I hear politics has more than enough of those. I’m not here to change anyone’s mind and I don’t take this seriously, but when I see others become argumentative like this I think we all need to just take a step back and realize how kind of unimportant this all is in the grand scheme of things. I do that often to keep a clear head. I, personally, will be buying this because it resonates with me and did so the second I saw it. Doesn’t mean anyone else has to. And nobody else is going to change my mind about it. Frankly, the negativity in here is not healthy.
