Big Volfogg is kind of meh. But Little Volfog is one of the most amazing things they ever made. This teeny tiny super articulated chogokin.

It's been a while, but I'm happy with the Megazord, Shin Getter, and Mazinkaiser I have. Just wish I didn't have to get an accessory pack for the last two.

I think that's the first SRC I ever bought. Bought a few more right after I opened that one.

The QC was excellent on that figure. It’s so nicely balanced, a pleasant update to the original design it show cases all the nice articulation of the SRC line with beautiful paint finishes, it’s a joy to handle and comes with superb accessories. Honestly the only downside is it’s Mazinger and there are so many already. I just love the figure, one of my all time favorites. Never left my display.

Actually, what was I thinking, the regular Mazinger Z was the first SRC I got...Too many Mazingers in my collection to remember them all, lol. But yeah, I keep buying them. Love Mazinger!

    Fair enough.

My purchases for the line were Alteisen, Weissritter, Daizyujin, Magiking, Gaogaigar, GaoFighgar, Genesic Gaogaigar, Big Volfogg, Choryujin, and Might Gaine.

I think the only one that I didn't find spectacular was Choryujin, as the dividing gimmick made him a tad unstable. Otherwise the rest were great. Didn't notice any problems with Big Volfogg, thankfully.

I do remember hearing plenty of problems with Aquarion, though. It's such an overdesigned piece of machinery, I guess it's doomed to forever have crappy toys.

You literally have stacked up some of the best SRCs and some meh SOCs. Ironically the two of us probably want SRC back more than anyone else in this thread. I don’t think I missed a single SRC release. I hate SOC Megazord as well.

You do indeed have quite the collection of the best in the line. Although to be fair most of the lineup is that good. The few weak ones are God Reideen (although the regular 70's SRC Reideen might be the best figure yet released of that robot), Solar Aquarian (which is wobbly and tends to shed parts) Kotetsu Jeeg (which is just wrong in every possible way) and Giant Robo (which is a nice figure save for its unpainted swirly blue plastic rather than a nice battleship grey paint scheme) and the Mic Saunders and Piggy set with the last piece of the Big Order room is complete plastic crap. On the not great but tolerable side are Big Volfogg, Great Mazinger (too small head looks weird) Aquarion Evol (much better than Solar) and God Sigma (fantastic figure but too damn small with almost no diecast). And I say this as someone that has a near complete collection baring exotic repaints. Every other figure in the line is outstanding. A dream to handle and hold.

Agreed on all counts except God Sigma I love that figure and miss their teased, never released, God Mars. I was glad they went smaller after SRC started encroaching on SOC scale.

Yeah God Sigma is one of my favorite little gokins. The paint and finish is stunning, the joints are plentiful and clicky and the weight is nice despite being so small. Any more metal and the joints probably wouldn’t be able to hold poses.

I hope for a cartoon color one that moves just as good as the Superminipla in combined mode and can combine all of its weapons into some big ass gun like the superminipla.

Anyone have both SRC Shin Mazinger and SoC GX-45 Shin Mazinger can snap a pic of both together? Or be able to give me a descriptive comparison?
I've been wanting a representation of Mazinger Z and I really like the Shin Mazinger look/colors, and for the longest time I've been toying with the idea of getting GX-45.
But if the SRC is equally good and easily available and stuff, would it be a suitable substitute?

GX-45 Shin Mazinger SOC Review by Gold - Robot Japan

You can't really go wrong with either figure, they're both great releases.

The SRC has the better articulation of the two (but not by a significant amount, GX-45 still holds up really well), more dynamic accessories (the breast fire effect part, Garada's decapitated head, the God Scrander), and an overall more beefy, imposing look to him (but not necessarily the most show accurate look).

GX-45 lacks the double jointed elbows, shoulder butterfly joints, and the ball jointed waist of the SRC, so its upper torso articulation is a bit "stiff" compared to the SRC but is still perfectly acceptable. One area I feel GX-45 beats out the SRC would be the range of hip articulation, the drop down hips and less bulky thighs really help out in that regard. Accessory-wise it doesn't have any effect parts, but the usual SOC stand is a nice display option (you're also able to display Mazinger in a flying position) and the set of rocket punch forearms are always a fun gimmick. The proportions are also more accurate to the show compared to the SRC.

The figures have their pros and cons compared to each other, but I've enjoyed handling both of them. I would say that GX-45 works better at being a standalone representation of Mazinger Z in general since it hits that sweet spot of not being too skinny or too bulky and the Shin Mazinger design isn't necessarily exclusive to the Shin Mazinger anime and manga. Mazinger was first drawn with the squared off heat sinks, pointed chest bit, and outlined eyes in original manga before switching over to the more well know Toei anime design later on, so a plus for GX-45 being able to represent that. And one thing I've always been impressed with is the sheer heft of the figure, it is loaded with diecast.

At the moment they're both going for about the same price used, at least on eBay, but if you can't find GX-45 for a good price, SRC Shin Mazinger is a more than suitable substitute. It's a great figure and its beefier proportions remind me of how Mazinger was depicted in the Shin Mazinger Zero manga, which I definitely appreciate, but as I've said, GX-45 works better at being a good general representation of Mazinger.

Also sorry if I ended up rambling on, didn't realize how late it was for me over here.

Speaking of Mazingers...I’m thinking of adding the GX-70 (anime version) to my collection but I have 3-4 of them already.

Are there any known QC issues with GX-70?

That’s a perfect rundown. I agree with everything you said. I think SRC wins for playability since it’s a little more fun to handle and well the accessories. SOC is great but a heavier Toy I prefer to just display, rather than grab and switch around. Plus you can get the standard SRC effect parts on him, which are fantastic. Shopping wise I would go Mandarake over eBay.

Nope could figure limited articulation was the complaint.

It’s a beautiful figure. My only annoyances with it is it barely reaches Daizyujin’s shoulders and it has so little metal. I think just the feet and hip barbells.
