Rollbar friggin' rules because he looks like Wildride/X-Brawn and I was stoked to see it. I also like Prowl a lot too for his design and he does a similar transformation.

Originally I wasn't convinced, but now I really like them and have one of each mold. They can be way overpriced though so I tend to wait until they're half-price or less.
Some really shouldn't be called 'One-Steps' though, as sometimes you have to reposition arms or other bits after doing the main step.
I also feel this kind of figure should only be small since doing them as larger minimal-step figures just feels like a rip-off.

You know what I'd really like to see? A line of G1-based One-Steps. Maybe Beast Wars too.

That's my least favourite type. That transformation scheme has been overdone now in my opinion. I hope it never gets used again in One-Steps.

Transformers is at essence a line of toys for kids and will always be, so naturally kids can’t be subjected to mind numbingly complex jigsaws like MP36 or ROTF Leader Prime.

But... what happens when you dumb down the difficulty a bit too much? You get One Steps. Add poor articulation, bad detailing, cheapish design, and minimal paint apps and there you have a shelfwarmer that’ll usually appeal to no one older than five.

As far as I know, those are the most common complaints in regards to One Steps.

G1 was full of one or two steps and no one really complained much back then. Why? Because they understood the gimmick.

In this case, the gimmick is rapid transformation. On the TV shows and movies, transformations happen in seconds. Yeah, you can practice transforming a Generations figure until you get it down to 15-20 seconds if it's an easier one. But I remember as a kid that when it was time to transform all my Autobots to drive into battle, my friend and I had to take 5 minutes or more to transform them all...only to take another 5 minutes a while later to transform them all back. It was a chore.

So, like Autobloke, the small child in me would be jumping from the rooftops if they did a G1 One-Step line. The only thing I'd like for them to include would be the weapons.

If it can't transform to robot in the time it takes the alt mode to drive off the arm of the sofa and land on the dog then it's not as much *pewpew* fun as it could/should be.

And yes, we need the iconic weapons for any potential G1-Step line. RID Soundwave One-Step does at least have his shoulder cannon.

I like your collection. My son and I have everything on your collection except for the large Dragonstorm, Ironhide, and the green truck.

I just picked up Authentics tall Optimus Prime.

first of all, DAT HEADSCULPT. I really enjoy all of these new "Evergreen" designs so far and if what seems like "aligned 2.0" actually STAYS aligned then I'm sure they'll divert from the 80s eventually and do up some other characters in the style.

secondly, one step changers are novel fun but even my nieces notice how blobby and inaccurate most of the bot modes are. Hell, RID15 One Step Bumblebee had a terrible robot mode AND car mode. This, the smaller Megatron and Bumblebee I have too, while clearly meant to be engineered on a budget, not all that posable, are still simple and LOOK NICE. THIS should be how Hasbro does "youngest kids" toys. Any kid I've ever met who actually watches Transformers could figure out any of the 3 I have so far. I used to be a supporter of one steps but now...Evergreen has me looking on them not so fondly in hindsight.

Even Cyberverse's Ultimate, Ultra, and Scout figures actually look like the cartoon designs.

My problem is how the "osn-step" changers is that 25 years ago they made them with between 8-9 points of articulation.

Most gobots had a hell of a lot more than one step to change them. Some were fairly complicated.

You conveniently forgot that it actually requires more than one step, since you need to flip the fists, feet remove and transform the tail. Not to mention that it changes from a four limb bot into a four limb animal, meaning you don't need the articulated limbs to tab into anything securely and still be able to move them with the auto transform gimmick. To have such limbs in a bit transforming, for example, into a car, would require a really complex design, since you'd need to design fully articulated limbs that also peg rigidly into the car body and can still be untabbed and unfolded in one step. Good luck with that.

No idea what that is, maybe linking to a wiki page or at least giving a name would let me check out just how many steps it actually involves.
