Think about it- he was able to win the beast wars and take over cybertron, keeping the maximals on the run for most of BM. And he actually had a truly evil/ maniacal plan. What do you think?

He has been the only one to completely take over Cybertron for an extended period of time and erase ALL resistence. Primal's crew were out of the timestream during Megatron's assault, but like Botanica, would have sucumb to Megatron and his Vehicons upon landing, but for Vector Sigma itself helping Primal, giving him an unfair advantage. The interference of VS was the ONLY reason Megatron lost in Beast Machines. Otherwise, the only one who could have opposed him would have been Nightscream. Who wasn't exactly up to the task, even when he joined Primal's crew.

So yes. BW Megatron is indeed the most dangerous villain in tf lore. And those beautiful monologues with the smooth voice. Greatest would be subjective, but to me, definetly is. That character is the only one with a dedicated character shelf in my collection.

    Yes, he is.

He's not only a great villain, but he's such a joy of a character. Completely unrepentant in his villainy, no attempts at sympathy or greater goal. He's frigging evil and he loves it.

He's also one of the most well rounded (people know what I mean by that right? :D ) character in the franchise
The entire Beast-story is arguably all about him.

BW Megatron is the Transformers epitome of a villain who knows he is evil and fucking loves it. Even when it seems like he's out of options, he always has another trick up his sleeve.

Before anyone brings up Unicron, I’ll just say that Unicron is less a compelling villain/character and more a basic obstacle to overcome. The Bots never even speak with Unicron in all of G1! He’s on par with natural disasters like a tornado or an avalanche.

So yes, BW Megatron is the greatest & even though there are certainly bigger & more powerful villains out there, no one can hold a candle to BW Megs.

Like everyone else here, I believe that he's the best villain we've gotten. He's an old-school bombastic villain that conceals his true malevolence behind a charismatic façade. The writers didn't say "he's just evil," and stop there. They went deeper. There are many types and magnitudes of evil - it's a spectrum, with dirty cowards, self-deluded extremists, and others; but among the worst are the true malignant narcissists and sociopaths, the guys that look at the people around them and see nothing but tools to use or bugs to squash, secure in the belief that they and they alone matter. That's Beast Era Megatron, an unrepentant megalomaniac, unfettered by delusions of good intentions and excuses. He made his choice, abandoned the morality of his fellow beings, and he never looked back. In an era were many villains are always well-intentioned people who've lost their way, or are crying about their tragic backstories (as though it excuses their own atrocities), Megatron is a breath of fresh air, despite being a monster that makes those pathetic whiners pale in comparison.

And he is a monster: attempted and committed genocide, enslaving innocent beings mind, body, and soul, devouring souls to become a god, abusing and sacrificing his troops on a whim, all for the sake of his own self-aggrandizement. IDW Megatron once said, "Understand this. So long as you stand in my way - so long as anyone stands in my way, I will respond by killing. Murder on an industrial scale. Because in the final analysis, I would happily wade across a river of corpses, chest deep in rust and grease and engine oil, just to crush the spark of the last Autobot still standing. And I would not do so as a means to an end, no. I'd do it, Prime, because it would give me pleasure." Later, he said to Ratchet that he only originally said it to provoke Prime and was shocked to find that he meant it. Beast Era Megatron would have said it, he would have meant it from the bottom of his Spark, and he practicing that belief until the day he died. Psychologically, he was an unstoppable force, an immovable object - the only way to end his threat permanently was to kill him.

Yes! No doubt of it. Dude went back in time with the excuse to gather Energon but, in reality came to wipe out Optimus Prime for the sake of the Predacon cause. Plan I still think has a tiny flaw because it doesnt mean it will put him in the place of Ruler of Cybertron, but that's another topic. Then went back to Cybertron and snatched all the sparks of the Transformers and "ate" them to become a God! :D

Which just adds to him. He manipulated things so tarantulas would have blown up in his escape pod, thus removing a traitor, and blown up a doomsday weapon in the same swipe. And when it turns out it was primal who went out instead, he was very quick to push his advantage. Learnt his transmetal form effortlessly and went straight up attack. Refused to let any confusion or relief set in.

Then he manipulated things to get access to the alien Metalhunter ship thanks to a network of comm jamming towers he set up, intending to take it to Cybertron to take over.

And THEN he had a scheme to turn the tripredacus agent sent to capture him onto his side. And when THAT failed, he had the backup plan of entering the ark and killing prime. It wasn't guaranteed to make him the ruler, but like he said when he entered those hallowed halls, he was loathed to carry out that plan until the end. He knew it wouldn't guarantee anything, but in his words, "the ultimate risk, for the ultimate prize".

That's what made this megs the best. He not only knew how to play the long game, he was a master, an artist at it.

He absolutely is. We’ve gotten other great villains like other Megatron’s, Lockdown, Overlord, and Airachnid (hahaha I kid), but BW Megs will always be the best Transformers villain. Two decades later, he’s still the Loki and Kilmonger of Transformers.

No arguments, though his personality was diminished in Beast Machines, Beast Wars Megatron is the most evil and sociopathic bad guy we have gotten. Heck he was able to control the transformer version of Hannibal Lecter aka Rampage.
And yet he was so much fun to watch.

I can't add more to how cool he was, with all the praise he's getting. My favourite Megs down to the yeesssss. But I do find it funny how there was a point of truth in what Rhinox/Tankor claimed about him. For everything Megatron accomplished, even the total conquest of Cybertron, he was ultimately outdone by one crucial flaw.

    He's Megatron.

At the end of the day, for all his epic plots, his grandiose schemes, his manipulations and advantageous opportunities, Megatron is ultimately out-done, like just about every other villain, by the fact he just can't help but take his ten minutes to monologue. He just has to rub it in that he's the winner, he's the best, he outsmarted you, outfought you! He had the Axalon in the crosshairs within the first five minutes of the era, but gave them the opportunity to drag him down too when he focussed on torment over disregard. He literally had the end of the G1 era in his sights, but spent the crucial bit of energy on some meagre apes instead of the prize. But I'll give him this; even he preferred to gloat than to execute, he always did have a back-up in mind, whether as simple as putting an anti-traitor lock in his minions or outright letting people go behind his back so he can slip in and steal their accomplishments. And he never let anything, even a nuclear fart, get him down; no matter what humiliating defeat the Maximals wrought, he was always raring to have another go.

Hee hee, still, it's ironic how he accused Primal of being all about the 'destiny and honour' speeches when most of his major defeats, up to and including his own death, boil down to the fact he just doesn't shut up :lol

Νοt the least to say he conguered Cybertron two times. Three if you count his past incarnation. If only the Autobots didnt have to win all the time, because "Good guys win duuuuuh"
