I think it’s pretty cool that the robot mode chest is thinner than the truck, due to a similar trick as generation toy’s op-ex.

Hard to explain in words. In Op-Ex, the chest windows are the 2 outer panes of a 3-pane truck front. In robot mode, the 2 outer pane form the chest and the inner pane hides.

 

Im cool with the BW homages. But I think they should get their own line like the Movie MP line gets. I dont like the continuity gumbo. Before you know it were going to be up to MP-50 and I cant even remember what number is who anymore. Maybe they should get rid of the numbers all together and simply call it "Masterpiece" along with the characters name.

On a side note, us G1ers might be in our 40s but youtube got kids watching 80s cartoons and buying CHUG figures. Even the Bay saga is getting a more G1 80s instalment in the Bumblebee movie. Trust me, the G1 characters and the franchise arent going anywhere. It will keep rebooting itself like Mickey Mouse, Superman, Batman have done. And that always leaves the door wide open for retro versions. Id bet on that if I was a gambling man.

 

It probably has a lot more to do with that many of the first reactions to MP-36 was that he didn't match up with MP-10 and that MP-10 was starting to feel a little dated.

Anyone else get the feeling/hope an updated Starscream and Soundwave are on the way? My theory is: a new mold for Starscream, and a remolded Soundwave with a new animation-inspired headsculpt and deco.

 

I think it looks good and when we see final colored pics it will probably look great.

I also think MP-10 looks great, and his truck mode doesn't look like it is built from Lego blocks.

 

I think the big takeaway from this reveal is that all parties involved win.

Those who prefer MP-10 don't have to shell out the extra 250ish bucks for a new MP AND since they're both the same size, all new MPs will still be in scale with either the New MP Prime, or MP-10.

Those who wanted a more cartoon accurate look will seem to get the win here, as well as people who missed out on MP-10 and don't want to pay secondary market prices.

What I wonder is if they're going to do swappable chest/body pieces like they did with the battle damage face/chest on MP Megatron so that we all can have a replica of the final fight from TF:TM, perhaps with the ability to have the steel girder/spike stick out of his abdomen side.

 

This truck mode will probably be more real world than mp-10.

 

Saw a video on the Megatron kit. Great idea, but I'm kinda bummed there isn't the "I would've waited an eternity for this!" line. Plus, some of the lines sound a smidge distorted for my liking...

 

You did a really nice job coloring this. Although fuzzy as all heck, at least we finally get to see the entire thing. And I am disappointed. I was expecting a sleeker looking Prime here. Instead I see a big red robot wearing a huge diaper and a chunky chest. Chunky in the wrong places. Basically, the proportions seem off on his torso in general. I don't hate it, but it doesn't excite me either. The digi-coloring certainly helped, though. I like it more than when I first saw the B&W pics. My two main concerns are the angles of the chest (the shape doesn't say "Cartoon" to me), and the chunkiness of his torso overall. I can deal with the diaper, I think. Legs and arms look good so far.

 

I could see Soundwave getting a "+" treatment re-release like Shockwave. That would make sense for a recolored/minor retool for that character.

I somehow doubt (and really am hoping they don't) that they will redo the seekers right now. Yes, I understand the current Seeker molds are old and somewhat dated compared to what the current state of the line is, but we fairly recently got through all 6 iterations of the characters (plus Acid Storm and Sunstorm), and honestly, I'd much prefer to get new MP molds that we have never had anything of, like Trailbreaker/Hoist, Mirage, Jazz, or the rest of the dinobots than do another endless cycle of seeker re-releases that are perfectly serviceable as is.

 

This V3 looks great IMO. I tried to go through the comments to catch up, but way too much bitching. If you don’t like it, just keep MP10 right? If you didn’t expect a toon version and were looking for something else, you don’t really pay attention to the line the last few years. I can’t wait to see this in color. As long as it’s Takara Blue like MP10. The Hasbro Blue popped, but matched nothing, toon or toy. But it did have better eyes.

 

I appreciate what they were trying to do, but I'm looking at it and it's not screaming "PRE-ORDER AND UPGRADE YOUR MP-10 NOW" to me. It's good for those that really like the more cartoon accurate looks, but I honestly think I'll just stick with my MP-10, especially since this guy will probably...definitely...be at least $250+. Don't have the money to be dropping hundreds of dollars on a single figures much.

its the back kibble sticking out that is really throwing me off on the v3 prime both mp01 and mp10 look good from the front and back i have a feeling this will not ( from the front yeah it looks good )

 

Simple - MP is still all about realistic alt modes. This is even more realistic than MP-10.

 

Starscream could do with it. Soundwave just needs a new paint job and the moulding removed from the cassette door. Ab crunch would be nice too I guess.

 

The truck seems to be composed of a myriad of panels, something that put me off the new MP Megatron too. He is also really under-detailed in robot mode with big empty spaces on the arms and legs...

 

looks like the trailer is the same as the mp10 one or very close resemblance the figure looks to be full of panels that fold up but looks cool I will wait for a domestic release in the us and if it never happens I will just be content with my mp10 primes lol

 

It looks terrible in robot mode, you would think after the 86 toys that toys based on the cartoon models would like like crap.

 

Love what I see so far, he's turning out better than expected.
