As SilverOptimus posted, he doesn't fight jets in a desert. It's just that the shot of him landing in the desert is from the trailer. Sizzle reels often do that where they play out a full scene then basically morph into trailer-style unrelated clips. In fact it sounds like the trailer we got is just a shortened version of the cinemacon footage.

It's not "he fights jets in a desert" it's he fights jets" and "lands in a desert." Two separate scenes.

So people who have actually seen the film in an early cut and are saying it isn't Starscream are somehow wrong based on the simple fact you haven't seen it to confirm what they say?

I mean, you even outright speculated that the jet was an F-15 even though it looks nothing like an F-15.






But as everybody's pointed out, it's an F4 Phantom (possibly an F4C Phantom II)



So just a word of advice, but don't accuse people of being snarky and condescending by being snarky and condescending. Treat others the way you want to be treated, y'know?

 

If the jet isn't Starscream, then tbh I'd rather they made him blue and named him Thundercracker. It'd also have saved us a huge disappointment. I've seen so much hype from average internet users over that one trailer shot that having him be just some flunky who happens to look like a perfect movie adaptation of the G1 design would just be an utter waste. Normally the movies doing something like this wouldn't surprise me but with this one I'm expecting better.

 

Why? Do you think Michael Bay is the only person in the world that has silly ideas? This is still a movie produced by Paramount by many of the same people that worked on the previous films.

I know. But the director choice and this design being so incredible gave me hope, tbh.

 

The director has only directed one other movie in his life, one that wasn't even a hit, and talented artists work on bad movies all the time.

 

I've heard that critique before. But I think that's selling Travis Knight short. He's run an animation studio for 10 years.
And while "Kubo" wasn't a hit, it was beautifully done. That and the rest of the Laika pedigree is really impressive.

Sure animation is not the same as live action, and he may have only "directed" one film, but he's got plenty of experience making great films.

 

I do think this is something people need to keep in mind. Being optimistic is fine, but we should really temper that expectation a bit.
