First, I'd like to dedicate this post to our beloved Bobby B himself. RIP Bernie Mac In the original film, this scene is quite important in establishing the "Chosen One" trope for Sam. Dialogue: "How can I help you? Well, my son here, looking to buy his first car. - You come to see me? - I had to. That practically makes us family. Uncle Bobby B, baby. Uncle Bobby B. - Sam. - Sam, let me talk to you. Sam, your first enchilada of freedom awaits underneath one of those hoods. Let me tell you something, son. A driver don't pick the car. The car'll pick the driver. It's a mystical bond between man and machine. Son, I'm a lot of things, but a liar's not one of them." Through this, we can see that Sam was chosen by Bee, even if Bobby Bolivia was just using these lines as marketing. This is interesting because it's the first thing heard in the Bee trailer. This leads strong credence to the theory that Hailee's character has some type of connection to the Transformers as, according to Bobby, Bee chose her. Thus, it is unlikely that their relationship is totally serendipitous. What do you think?
I always loved that line in the first movie, I thought it was great hearing it first thing in the Bumblebee trailer. I’m wondering if she’ll have some big importance to the main movies or not.
Jesus, I have absolutely zero recollection of that scene from the first movie. Goes to show how much of it I blocked from my memory. Nonetheless, I agree that it was an immaculate touch to the trailer. Maybe I'm delusional in my eagerness, but I feel that perhaps the creators involved in this project actually do care.
Out of all the things from the 07 movie to feel nostalgic for, I never thought that Bernie Mac of all things would one day hit me in the feels. Yet here we are.
Yeah, I literally got chills hearing that in the Bee trailer, reminding me of all the good memories of how I was blown away by the first film.
Even when you take away the Transformers aspect, it’s still a line that always struck a chord with me. If you’re a car guy like me, you do form a special bond with your first car. If you take care of it, it will literally and metaphorically take you to a ton of places. I still own the Impreza I got when I was 17 five years ago. I have a ton of memories in that car such as my first date, my first speeding ticket, traveling to my internship, driving to high school and college graduation, and braving the harsh Pennsylvania winters. When you give a car a personality and human qualities like Bumblebee, then that bond can be even stronger.
The ironic thing is, Bobby B didn't actually believe or mean what he said when he uttered that now iconic line - it was just salesman talk to get Sam to buy an overpriced crappy car! So it's nice to hear it used in a sentimental way.
THAT'S MY MAMMY! HEY MAMMY! Oh, if I had a rock, I'd bust your head! But, you know, she deaf HEH HEH HEH
They seem to have digitally slowed and lowered Bernie Mac's voice... which I really like because I personally find his voice irritating. His original delivery of those lines was so quick and loud it took me a second viewing of the trailer to even realize I heard them before. Being altered like this I think gives more weight and meaning to the dialog that wasn't there before if that makes any sense.
Donna Noble and Blurr annoy me as well for similar reasons. Blurr is a fast talker which is annoying. It should also be noted that I grew up with an older brother who is a fast talker as well. I care about him but he still annoys the crap out of me when he talks so fast I can't even understand him. It's like freaking breath between your words. Donna Noble and Bernie Mac both share the trait of every word that comes out of their mouths sounds like they're constantly pissed off. And again I grew up knowing someone like this, my aunt's room mate who is generally a B towards my aunt until she finally moved out and got her own place. Part of the problem being that this B couldn't even work a damn toaster by herself so my aunt had to do all the work for her incompatant aft. The actress who plays Donna doesn't seem to naturally talk like that from what little I've seen of her outside Doctor Who, just her character is annoying but Bernie Mac is always like that. On the plus side it was a rather small part. I can stand him in small doses but I've never been able to sit threw a full episode of his TV series.
