AoE was more like DotM in most ways than TLK was like AoE. The problem isn't that you dislike AoE and TLK, it's that they're a scapegoat for anything and everything, to the point that you say plenty of dubious things about them and make some fans wonder if you've ever seen them.

So the 2007 film, RotF, and DotM, which I enjoy, get a free pass on having Cybertronian artifacts and Transformers on Earth all of this time, but AoE and TLK can't? It seems like there's a huge double standard being applied to the earlier films and the newer films.

Actually, if anything AoE actually improves things in this regard. In 2007 the Allspark was ONLY on Earth. The Sun Harvester and Matrix were ONLY on Earth. The Pillars were ONLY on the Moon. The Seed in AoE is not even found on Earth all of this time until the present day. It's merely a weapon Lockdown gives to the humans in exchange for Prime's capture. And it's not even the only one. Thousands of worlds were cyberformed by many thousands or millions of Seeds tens of millions of years ago, and Earth was merely one of them.

Furthermore, the Cybertronian artifacts on Earth, whether one likes them or not, doesn't do jack squat at "ruining" Transformers. Nor does anything else AoE or TLK do.

If you end up liking the Bumblebee movie, like it because you like it on its own merits. Don't just like it because you think it's, "Not like AoE/TLK."

AOE was the only one of these films that I liked, FWIW. It was dark, didn't fool around with as much stupid insipid humor, and had that great line from Drift "That's Optimus Prime".

I'm not getting into this argument where you just randomly throw up arbitrary reasons why a film that provably flopped domestically in the states and its sequel which flopped internationally are somehow underappreciated. It doesn't fucking MATTER how indie and experimental they are, the fact is they lost money and that damages the brand. And if that helps eventually destroy the brand by making it unprofitable by being associated with what is widely ridiculed as one of the worst franchises in the industry? I'd call that "ruined".

Hasbro doesn't give a shit about how "deep" the story is, about who the fuck the Creators were supposed to be even if Paramount's writers had a goddamn clue (spoiler: they never did and you can't prove me wrong on that because a hand at the end of a film isn't the same thing as explaining their actual motivations!), in fact they're actually livid at Paramount for that bullshit at the beginning of AoE where everybody just died off screen - something you stated in a previous thread was 'a good idea' for narrative purposes or something. Transformers exists to make money, which is something that in its current format, the AoE/TLK format, it is not doing. You can argue all you like about how the fact the bayformers mythos is vague, undefined, ill-explained, and has a weird fixation on robots that don't look like they actually turn their bodies into something else that doesn't involve cheating on a grand scale, is in fact somehow the groundwork for the next great fictional universe on the level of Game of Thrones because it's all "mysterious" or some shit, but you can't just keep playing the "mystery" card about important parts of the greater narrative like the TF films and never elaborate on them without it really coming off as cheap and lazy writing to avoid nailing down specifics. Who wants to watch garbage film after garbage film where the questions of the previous film are left unanswered and instead only more are introduced with the idea the next episode will explain everything...except then it doesn't and repeats the cycle? You have to give the audience something to keep them going and for all that you essentially claim Transformers does this, you are just as guilty as I am of having to write entire text walls to explain it - the general public doesn't want lengthy explanations of how the plot could make sense!

And this isn't something like Citizen Kane where it gets appreciated years after its disappointing release at theaters. With Kane, experimental for its time, you still get the basic idea of the plot because throughout the recap of Kane's life, it's only made clear the significance of his dying word "Rosebud" in the end because the sled he rode as a child is shown to have that word printed on it, showing that the only truly happy part of his life - despite his wealth and success - was him riding that sled, and then the sled is destroyed. There, the movie presented a question and with the answer provided at the end, provides the context to understand what it was all about.

Transformers isn't that. AoE and TLK rely on believing that shit literally happens because of things that go without in depth explanation like the Creators, but rely on them entirely as excuses more than real elements of the established setting. Why did Lockdown come to find Prime? Because the Creators sent him. Why? 'To clear the chessboard'. What the fuck does that even mean? Nobody fucking knows because it's never given why the need him in the first place - and TLK sure as shit didn't explain it either!

Now, I'm not continuing this further - it's clear we will never see eye to eye on this subject and it's derailed the thread enough.

Um can we just focus on the upcoming movie please? I don't want to see this thread go in flames because of stuff like "I didn't like this entry in the series."

$245 million is not a flop domestically speaking. Not as much as its predecessors domestically, sure, but that is far from being a flop.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Hasbro wanted a new group of robot characters to sell toys. Where the hell did you even get the idea that Hasbro was "livid" at characters dying in AoE?

AoE definitely did. TLK not as much.

$1.1 billion. I'm sorry, but that is definitely making money, and it DEFINITELY did not ruin the brand.

What the hell does Citizen Kane have anything to do with this?
