if anyone expected this figure to not need to be disassembled to transform they were deluding themselves since thats how all the leaders in potp are. and ya know what, its an awesome play feature, kids love super modes (which story aside is what the evolution gimmick is in practice). primal also only ever used the ground assualt mode in the show twice, if they were going to ditch any mode it would be that one since its pretty insignificant. perma deployed cannons are part of why i never got the original, along with how stupid his proportions look. not saying one is better than the other but there are pros and cons to each and someone that thinks 100% that the new one is worse than the old one is blinded by nostalgia or distaste for current has/tak offerings. ultimately all im saying is that for some there are plenty of reasons to buy the new one over the old one

I don't know why, every time, I see Transformers Beast Wars: Transmetals Optimal Optimus...I kept on thinking that UMagnus and not Prime himself. It's the shoulder stack and the huge bot size that do it for me. If UM was to ever exist in BW, he would look exactly like Transmetal Optimus OPtimus. I really love that design. It's such ashamed neither TTomy/Hasbro/3P never repaint him into UM as I would dearly love to add him into my UM collection.

Yup, I already have TFCC Ultra Mammoth in my collection. But Transmetal Optimus looks UM to me more than Ultra Mammoth. I'm still waiting for either the official or 3P to release Transmetal Optimus in the G1 UM toon colors...again love that design.

The smaller Primal looks well detailed and probably the best of all the modes, even though he looks like that backpacker I talked to who fell on his ass heading to the trail. :lol

With takara extra tooling the figure would have benefit a lot; extra sculpted details, probably extra monkey deluxe mode and truck mode, sculpted maximal insignias, sculpted monkey hair, panels for covering the hollow arms.

I know the original had lights and sounds and action features, but doggone it this is a much nicer figure.

It has a touch of the original Primal, a protoform pod, a dash of the Transmetal Primal (hoverboard) and full on Transmetal 2 Optimal Optimus without any of the issues. (Chipping paint.) Not to mention a show accurate inclusion of the Matrix of Leadership.

I'm not that big of a Beast Wars fan and even I want this figure. When you think about it, it's a pretty well-rounded figure, honestly. Nails the beast mode, the robot modes, the vehicle and weaponized modes. Articulation looks to be pretty good and it covers all of the bases in terms of character. I hate to admit it, because I love the other Leaders, but this is probably the best Leader Class figure of the line because of all it covers...even if covering all those bases does leave some things to be desired. (Let's face it, Primal makes for an ugly backpack and hoverboard.)

I mean, my goodness, if you wanted fanwank, this is pretty much the perfect figure. Hasbro's design team has been bursting at the seams to make this figure happen. They had to be.

I have the exact opposite reaction. Jack of many Primals, master of none. Thankful I'm content with the original.

I dont know maybe it is the hollowness, the missing paint, the lack of sculpted furr on the arms or the sculpted maximal simbol. The prototype look so much better i pass the missing Truck mode and the monkey mode But i cant pass the hollow arms, the red eyes and the missing silver paint on the crest. They were easy fixable even the lack of monkey mode .

Remove the cockpit section from Primal and place it on Optimal Op and voila! Two separate figures.

I wonder if you can seat a Primemaster robot in the cockpit if the Matrix is removed?

This is a neat homage to not only Primal from Beast Wars season 1, but also seasons 2 and 3. It has the bot mode for Primal, surfboard inspiration from TM Primal and combined body/alt modes of Optimal Optimus. This isn't meant to be a successor to Optimal Optimus, it's meant to be a modern homage. In a perfect world it would exceed the original in all areas but it doesn't. Instead it provides different play features while paying homage to the 3 versions of Primal through Beast Wars.

Looks pretty fun to me. Always regretted passing Optimal Optimus for $15 at KB Toys 16 years ago and Primal Prime for $39 in a LCS not long after. This softens the blow a tad.....

Glad the bottom part of the mask on Primal got painted silver(it wasn't on the initial stock photos months back).

This is very cool. It removes 100% of the issues I have with the toy based on photos and would make a custom I have in mind all that much easier. I wonder how one would go about separating the two figures?

So what's the deal with the Takara version? I thought I read that Takara won't be doing their own versions anymore of the hasbro PotP ones.

Either way, it looks like the Takara one will be cheaper for me so I will be getting that. This is going to be my first mainline retail purchase in a very long time, it feels a bit odd and at the same time nostalgic.
