He still needs a second coat and i need to scrape off the excess where i fucked up. But overall Im done. Once the second coat is cured and dried ill apply some Deception stickers to the chest and then seal with some future. Obviously a full combined mode shot will be taken once then rest of the Terrorcons are in my hands. I'm unsure of I'm going to paint the thighs yet or not. I don't wana modify the figure TOO much, i like my TF's staying as stock as possible. If i do paint the thighs i might have to buy a second Hun-Gurr because OCD. Still hoping on a 3rd party upgrade kit though. Anyway, the combined not only didn't look like Abominus to me, It didn't feel Like Abominus. I just couldn't find the character in what Hasbro did despite it being fantastic figure overall. Now though, I look at it and hes unmistakably Abominus and i love it. Just needed a better chest and the right colors which i felt were more important than the dragon heads on his knees. Also the toy accurate pink looks fantastic with the toon accurate color layout! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Got tired of waiting for the eventual 3rd party Abominus upgrade. so i did it myself. Here are some step by step pics. bought this stuff a few years ago and forgot about it until i cleaned out my shit. new antennae and a chest adapter to attached to the back of Abominus that allows the G1 chest shield to attach. by sheer luck, both of these have a nice *snap* when i attach them. How the antennae attach. the the adapter attaches Finished torso with paint removal from his head. only downside is the tail between his legs, but it swings back just far enough that it kinda just continues to look like a tail rather than a robo dick. i was originally gonna attach the G1 chest over the actual chest but it stuck out too far and doing it on the back was actually easier. painting next probably.
This is awesome. Only way you could make it better is make Hun-gurrr’s legs part of Abominus’ legs, G1 style.
Paint Update Still needs a second coat and i need to scrape off the excess where i fucked up. But overall Im done. I just picked up my hun-gurr and unfortunately his right-side combiner slot is 'slanted' as in I can't put in a deluxe as a leg. Is there any way I can fix it? Also nice custom
probably easy to fix if you open up the leg, it may have just been assembled wrong. i wouldn't know though, ive never opened up the figure.
I've never opened up a figure either. Maybe I might pick up another one and just use my misassembled one for bot/dragon mode only
It should be easy to take apart the leg to adjust the Combiner port. Just look for the screws and gently pry. As long as they didn't use glue, it's monkey simple.
This looks incredible! What did you use to safely remove the grey paint from the head? Also, what color did you paint the antenna with, and where do you buy that neat plastic stuff? The head is the only thing I REALLY dislike about mine...
soaked the head in 91% isopropyl alcohol (any store that has a pharmacy section for like 3$ a bottle) for about 10 minutes, paint wipes right off with a paper towel, q-tips will help alot too. if it doesn't all come off, let it soak a little longer, wont hurt the plastic. it may not ALL come off, some spots can be stubborn for various reasons, in which case i used a magic eraser, or for the REALLY bad spots, scraped off with an xacto knife. (careful with this option, can scratch and damage it) mixed the paint color myself, but i used Testors enamels. just under 3$ a bottle at michael's or hobby lobby. i bought the thermo plastic off of amazon. there are a ton of different brands, so just search "moldable thermo plastics" and pick the one you like. (a quick round of youtube research will help too.) i think the jar i bought was about $30, but i opted for the big jar, 35oz.
Awesome, thanks! I have a bunch of testors and Tamiya paints kicking around from building hot rod models years ago, and I'll have to pick up some of that moldable plastic and some of the right alcohol. All I've got in my model supplies is acetone.
