If he is priced above Dinobot I will totally say I told you so and moan about the price despite instantly paying it once it goes up on pre-order. It is my right as a Transformers fan! For now I am blown away by how awesome he is and slightly worried about how I'm going to pay for him. I don't think there is anything unreasonable about anyone expressing that concern.

 

Yes but they still made Tracks despite the popularity, as well as other less popular characters getting MPs simply because they were easy repaints/remolds rather than big fan favorites. A MP is made when that character's number is called, and that's really all there is to it.

And I would argue that BW anything is nothing but collector focused at this point, and having a filled out cast will be even more appealing of a task simply because the much smaller cast will be easier to fill.

Exactly. The earliest days of MP collecting weren't so much about getting everyone, the "gotta catch 'em all" attitude didn't hit big until after MP-10 when Lambor was revealed and the idea of getting everyone from G1 as a MP became more of a reality. And if Megatron represents the worst of the investment cost, I think a lot of people will find that preferable to long term G1 collecting where people are legitimately planning on completing whole combiners and even city bots.

Other lines have seen some price jumps, though, but few of them have made as many leaps in design and included accessories as Takara has done with Masterpiece. Stuff like sculpted dino-scales, added paint and detail, and extra faces and even the display stand all have added to the price. Obviously there has been a change in attitude about some of those limits since that interview with Hasui took place.

I find the Scorponok comments interesting. While I don't disagree with his popularity and the general opinion of his character, I don't think that'll be a major factor on whether TT does an MP of him. He may be one of the last ones in the BW line they do, but his transformation is so simple there's hardly anything that needs to be done on top of his original toy design. They shouldn't need to spend that much time and resources designing him. He won't be a top seller, but simple enough to spit out and make a profit. I'm not a toy expert though so I really know nothing. Just my thoughts.

Also, I think he's even more needed now that Megatron is coming soon. Gotta have his second in command next to his side!

 

I would think that Scorponok would be the last S1 character they'd make, followed not too closely by Terrorsaur.

 

You know, I've been re watching season one recently, and there is one accessory that would be really cool if he had, but probably won't get. That being his big ass gun from Call of The Wild.

Jesus! You really can't properly comprehend how big a bugger he is until you see it laid out in front of you. That thing is gonna look so sexy on my Beast Wars shelf!

So, other than his potentially unappealing price, what is there to actually complain about regarding this figure?!
Primal has no elbows and is missing a splash of paint of his forearm cannons, Cheetor has some fragile joints and some completely unavoidable kibble, Dinobot looks like he just ate an entire pack of his clones (and isn't in my hands right now!) which are all really minute issues anyway but Megatron genuinely looks beyond reproach. His feet are maybe raised a tad too much...

There's no reason to believe that TT will botch his paint job; so that'll be perfect too and his transformation is so simple he shouldn't have any tiny, fragile panels or joints. Everything looks bulky and sturdy. He'll most probably be ratchetted at the hips, waist and shoulders so he'll easily support the weight of his weapons as well.

There's still a bit of anxiety for Dinobot because -who knows how well he'll hold together given how his transformation is so involved but I have complete confidence in Megatron to be a total home run. Dinobot will ultimately be the more meaningful acquisition for me regardless of any issues but Megs is looking to be a guaranteed joy to behold and I honestly don't think there's a snowflake's chance in hell of him disappointing anyone.

 

How do Dinobot and Megatron stack up height was compared to MP10?

 

Here's a question that just occurred to me regarding when they eventually do MP Rhinox.

Do you think they'll him an actual beast mode butt hole? I can't be the first one who's thought of this

 

so i measured my MP-38 and from toe to head he is 7.125". I measured my MP-10 and he is 9.25" not including the antenna (earpieces).

I then got primal into a crouched pose (like in that pic) and measured a height of 6.75" so then I went in Illustrator grabbed a 6.75" box and a 9.25" box (yellow boxes). brought them in and grabbed a standing image of prime. Looks like Grapeface will be just a hair shorter than MP-10 (maybe half a head shorter at most)

Keep in mind this is a pretty rough way of doing things. Photos are shot a different angles.. that sort of thing.

Hmm, so dinobot and megatron are not as tall as I thought they were.

Based on that pic, it looks like he is Ironhide sized

Seeing as Cheetor has one, I wouldn't be surprised if they give Rhinox one too!

 

Just have the tail point up as a feature and your done.

 

In fairness we haven't seen him from all angles, in beast mode or painted...so there's still reason to be cautious, but yeeeeees so far he looks flipping excellent and I and over the moon that I'll soon be able to pre-oreder a Masterpiece of hands down of the best portrayed and multilayered bad guys in all of Transformers.

It’s a shame they consider Terrosaur to be a less popular character as I loved both the character and design and would immediately pre order a masterpiece version!

Having said that...I’ve got enough Beast Wars outlay to think of with the two dinosaurs making an appearance soon.

Best start making room in my cabinets!
