I feel pretty positive about what he said. But then I don't really care if it connects to the bay films or not. The less the better actually. When he's says things like "I grew up with transformers" and "G1 vibe" I feel we're getting out best shot at a proper transformers movie. Certainly within the confines of the outgoing movie verse.

I don't know if Starscream really knew about the plan with Sentinel like Megatron did.

Here's how I would do it.

"My fellow Decepticons, we are gathered here to honor Megatron's dying wishes. To retrieve the Allspark and conquer this universe!"

"And go home?"

"Yes, that too. Anyway...I want this to be quick. If we can all just mobilise, we leave this wretched planet....."

"I just have a question, Lord Starscream....."

"Well... Back on Cybertron, Megatron told us about other plans that he wanted to do in regards to restoring Cybertron.... He mentioned in his deal with Sentinel Prime that he was looking forward to draining the life force of Unicron."

"S-S-Sentinel?! Wait, I thought Soundwave was supposed to take care of that. Hold on, let me call him..... Uh... Hello? Soundwave, this is Lord Starscream.... Can you give an update on Sentinel Prime?"

"Sentinel Prime is offline. We cannot revive him..."

"G- I mean... How unfortunate, let's forget about that deal then...."

"Lord Megatron also informed me about a plan to drain Earth's sun. He said it will give us a huge surplus of energon."

"First, I am "Lord".... Second, we don't care about energon, we're not rusting, Soundwave. We have enough to go on."

"Draining the sun could kill Unicron...."

*shakes his head* "You can't confirm that, Soundwave. You can't possibly believe that. Do you really-"

"Uh... Lord Starscream, we have some news."

"What?"

"According to research about the planet's history. Our intelligence searches might confirm that the Allspark is located here."

"Oh good, then let's get started then..."

"We also have news that Megatron might be here as well...."

"What? Wait.... Is he dead though?"

"Fortunately, he actually might be alive.... Does that mean along with the Allspark we can take Megatron as well?"

"Uh....That would be a huge burden... I mean, a huge burden if he is dead.... Um.... You know what? Yeah, let's bring him back!" ("Oh f-....")


Whole thing sounds like a Robot Chicken sketch.

 

Not even Megatron knew about the plan like Megatron did, since he apparently forgot that Optimus didn't originally have the Matrix, and that leaving Sentinel on the moon is useless since Megatron's plan was for the Fallen to aquire the Matrix himself. If he always planned to get the Matrix, why leave Sentinel at all? In fact ROTF established Megatron didn't even know about the Matrix until the Fallen told him after the Allspark was lost. And if their plan was to rebuild Cybertron using humans as slave labor, why did they want to destroy the sun and subsequently humanity with the harvester and oh God I've gone cross-eyed.

Not to sound like that other guy but....

Sentinel Prime was basically non-functioning. You can't do any of his stuff without him alive.

I don't recall Megatron being told by the Fallen about the Matrix.... I believe the conversation went down with Megatron saying that the Allspark's knowledge has been transferred and that Optimus was the last Prime and how the Fallen needed Optimus gone.

And based on what's canon now... The sun harvester and space bridge were two different plans guided by two different people that Megatron teamed up with to achieve his one goal, one way or another.

I believe destroying sun would crack open the Earth and let's say... They find Unicron underneath it all and they kill him in his slumber.

On the other hand, they force humanity to mine Earth and let's say, they eventually find Unicron deep down beneath the Earth and they kill him.

You end up with the same thing overall.

 

You do realize how forced and convoluted that all sounds, right? It's also pretty funny how Megatron never mentions any of these plans in relation to each other. Almost like the writers he was making it up as he went along.

It's going to vary by person.

For the people that never liked the Bay movies or who got completely burned out on the Bay movies even the slightest connection to the Bay films is serious mark against the movie. For some people now it's a total reboot or nothing.

If you've grown to hate radio speak well it's back again. Or maybe he beeps this time like Transformers Prime. Whatever the case is some people just don't want to deal with some attempt at being cute with mute Bumblebee. At this point I'd be fine if there was never another mute Transformer for the rest of my life.

Bumblebee is the kids appeal character and while kid appeal characters might be great for kids everyone doesn't love a kids appeal character. Since they seem to be going for some heart and soul with this film expect the kids appeal factor to get cranked up to 11.

Some people are just sick of Bumblebee because between the live action movies and the cartoons it feel like we are constantly being pushed the character. It's not that different from say when Marvel would over push Wolverine and fans would go from love him to sick of him. Or how GI Joe fans grew to hate Snake Eyes because he not only took over the Marvel comic book but every damn wave of toys it was another damn Snake Eyes figure.

While Paramount came up with the unexpected good film once in a rare while like Arrival, 10 Cloverfield Lane, or A Quiet Place the vast majority of the Paramount films in recent years have been real stinkers. They are kind of like the reverse Pixar. So just playing the odds the safe bet is to expect a stinker from Paramount.

With the baggage it will take the Bumblebee movie a while to win people over. Plus you have to remember none of us here have seen any of the footage yet and there is no trailers so all we really have to go on is stuff we've read in news stories on the internet. Perhaps attitudes will change once there is more to go on.

So, it is standalone movie not fully connected to the Movieverse? Like TLK? "Great". He at least said in advance. I'm just frustrated, how insanely Hasbro want to flush in the toilet 9+ years of sensational and phenomenal MichaelBay's Movies, and replace them with stinky old G1 shit. Fuck you, Hasbro you are killing the brand. That's funny, that millions of people from general audience DON'T read this interview and wait normal prequel to TF1!

 

We've known that this movie is a standalone movie since it was first announced. It's a Bumblebee spinoff, not a direct prequel to the main story. It's basically what Ant-Man is to The Avengers, I don't see anything wrong with that, if anything it helps build the universe you love even more. That much being said, it could still tie in to the 2007 film, we don't know what's going to happen in it.

I wouldn't say Hasbro is flushing nine years down the toilet for G1 stuff. This is the first movie out of five to be a heavy G1 homage, and it makes since because it's set during the 80s. That's like complaining Guardians of the Galaxy flushed six years of Marvel down the toilet for '80s nostalgia. It's just one little throwback movie. If they end up making episode 6, I'm sure it will be closer to the tone and look of the other movies. Making one movie for the longtime fans isn't betraying the brand, it's just a one-time thing.

 

The history of Transformer has been about rebooting so that kids wouldn't have to know about characters before they were born just to get into Transformers. It's hardly been death of all things Transformers just because Hasbro said okay now we are going to Beast Wars, now we are going to Transformers Animated, okay now we are going to do Transformers Prime. Even the comic books start over when they switch over to another publishing company. Transformers is a rough brand to follow if you can't swing with change.
