I guess Barber is inoffensive enough to not have anyone have negative feelings towards him.

Key word there should be "yet".
But I hope it proves true for his entire tenure that the stories are that good and unified cohesively as well as understood. But we shall see how that goes. How divisive mentalities are on topics though, it won't be long before good ideas get dragged through the mud by those that disagree about whatever they convey. And a comic that's afraid of treading new ground never making waves, is a comic that's rarely interesting.

But hey, if the story is good enough, I'd say still go for it whether it's divisive or not with fans.

(sigh) Ok. The only thing clear to me is that there are some fans who are overly excited for a guy who went from Hasbro Brand Editor to freelance writer then to EIC. Admit it. If Ryall didn't try to go behind Hasbro's back with the Sitterson fiasco he would still be there as EIC and Barber would still be writing a comic selling below 6000 a month.

Negative? Try real. For all of his miracles with continuity it didn't seem to help him save a flagging comic book.

Calm down. Everyone sounds like they're ready to build statues for the guy and there hasn't been one page of a TF comic published yet with him as EIC.

Here. I'll even put some smiling emojiis so people don't think I'm flaming or whatever. :) ;) :)  :D

I'm going to miss his writing, which seemed to be more on point when he was giving it his undivided attention.

BUT he was a good line editior and oversaw phase 2 becoming a sales success in the first place. Now it'll be interesting to see what effect he has since IDW publishes a lot of books and controls a lot of licences, so who knows how much his hands would be in any one pie.

But here's hoping for the best!

Pm me for details and I’ll explain there rather than dragging the thread off topic and/or risking the thread getting shut down. :)

That goes for anyone reading this...

Can't we have a color photo of him for this event?

He's come in for plenty of criticism previously, but his strengths are well recognised and very compatible with being in charge overall.

We'll never know what would have happened, or if that was a main factor in Ryall leaving at all.

Well, it's harder to patch together a sinking ship while it's out on the ocean than it is to build a seaworthy one in drydock. The preceding six or so years were a huge impediment to RiD and MTMTE when they began - loads of minor plot points and characterisations had to be carried forward, making it difficult for new readers to really jump on.

Cautious optimism is a good position to take - but this is a good sign that we've a shot at a cohesive and *accessible* Transformers fiction from the get-go.

Congrats Barber on getting the EIC title! His passion for the material always seemed very genuine and right up front in the material, and his ability to guide multiple paths at once was shown on our very own Transformers line, so hopefully that won't get lost as he moves up to the whole company.

I met him at SDCC at the IDW booth a few years ago, really nice in person, very much seemed to get it, to understand things from the ground level.

That's enough bickering. And the discussion about sexual orientations and those of Transformers characters ends here. This forum is not the place for those kinds of debates and this thread is only for discussion about Barber's new position. Report offending posts and move on, otherwise I'm handing out infractions.

I suspect that a lot of what people might have said in response to this was lost in what seems to have been a recent purge, but a lot of this seems way out of proportion (and your emojiis do nothing to fix that). You seem to have an intense need to tell people not to be happy.

Interesting, I suppose. Maybe he'll make a better EIC than a writer. I'll be holding off the accolades until we get something tangible to properly critique.

Hopefully IDW doesn't come to regret this decision. But they're completely out to lunch if they believe I'm going to mindlessly lap their slop after their recent antics, they're gonna either earn my praise, or my contempt.

Hope they make this second chance count.

I definitely glad he's coming back, let's see how well it affects the quality of the books.

THIS. This is the measured response IDW deserves now.

Disagreed, I am learning to love lapping slop in preparation for Barber's triumphant ascension

Congrats Mr.Barber! I'm pretty sure that this is going to lead to amazing stories.

xD! You just made my day dude xD.

In this day and age neither did I.

Glad someone agrees with me. Even if I loved the concept of the Hasbro universe (since I'm a sucker for shared universes), I can admit that Revolution was the definition of rushed. I really hope they do try the Hasbro universe again, but right, which is why Barber as Editor-In-Chief gives me hope.
