So how long until we see him in some fiction of some kind?

So in 20 years we will get a new Beast Era of real robots that can turn into animals right?

I don't see anything anything REALLY useful in this image. It's a non-moving self transforming model with added novelty of having places for humans to seat inside. Didn't see the bot mode walking or the car mode driving.

Amusement park is indeed where it has it's place but not much more than that.

Also, square-cube law already ensures that giant mecha will never be a practical solution in any future.

There's a different video that shows it walking and driving.

"Driving" and "walking". With a support frame and security cables.

I saw a dollar store RC toy cars more agile than that.

It's just a glorified display piece with mecha theme. It'll never be more than that.

    Nice vanity project, tho.

He looks like he could be part of a new Brave series.

An actual transforming figure that matches Kunio Okawara's artwork would be nice.

Any videos of it actually being driven?

This is a far cry from that horrible red gobot thats been parading around.

As goofy and weird this thing is, I won't deny that this transforming car thing is kinda awesome and charming in a "so bad it's good" way.

This thing reminds me of another attempt of something similar, but instead with a small hatchback.

That's how the hardcore G1 fans wanted the movies to look like...

I have seen smaller robots that can pull off better transformations at much faster speeds...

We can't expect the first life size transforming vehicles to move like they did on the shows. It takes a while for technology to develop.

well the reason for why the smaller versions transforms faster is simple, due to physics, mainly weight, small objects are much lighter, the larger objects are heavier, the only way to make the larger versions to transform as fast as the smaller versions is make the components lightweight or having more advanced powerful motors for the transformation mechanism, seriously DON'T FORGET PHYSICS IN REAL LIFE.

You’re quite right, but the cynicism isn’t completely justified - there’s a very good use for this.

Firstly yeah - there will sadly never be giant humanoid robots that leap around like giant athletic humans :( . It’s not just a matter of technology - there’s cold hard physics in the way. Bayformers are bad enough, Pacific Rim sized stuff even more impossible. Then there’s the fact that as much as we’d all love them - there’s just no reason for transforming robots, even if they were feasible. Lousy robot and an even worse vehicle.

This is making no useful progress in robotics - it’s pretty far from the state of the art in fact. Check out stuff by Boston Dynamics for example. This is indeed a glorified amusement park ride.

But that’s all it’s supposed to be. I’m very sure Takara Tomy - a toy company, remember! - and their partners are fully aware they are not heralding in a new era of robotics. The purpose of this is exactly to go in an amusement park and inspire kids into science and engineering. That makes it super cool in my book.
