WFC/FOC are fairly inspired by G1 but are in their own seperate continuity.

 

I could have sworn there was a connection. I don't need them to be canon to enjoy them, but their stories were too good to be just a throwaway in my opinion. I think I am going to dust them off and do another playthrough this weekend now, hehe.

Technically speaking, the Cybertron games are officially supposed to be in the same continuity as Prime and RiD 2015, but if that's not the biggest joke on Hasbro's part in recent history, I don't know what is.

 

They're technically the same continuity as Prime. That gets a little messy with RiD as Grimlock seems to be a totally different character. Actually, it's a lot messy. I'm just going to link to the wiki.

I really need to find Snarl and Sludge. But i can't find them in stores and can't afford online prices. This sucks  

 

According to Vector Prime there is a G1 continuity where the games are the events before the cartoon.
Look up "list of universal streams" on the wiki. It's in there somewhere.

Pretty sure the creators of rid15 finally came out and flat out said it’s a different grimlock and not meant to be the same character.

 

Transformers continuity will break your brain if you let it. That said, I love the idea of the franchise existing in a multiverse where everything is canonical. For example, I think ReGeneration One is unreadable but I think it's the best thing ever that all the Hot Rods from every story and toy line showed up in it at once to take down a big bad.

 

Neat, I didn't see that. It pretty much has to be. I did start thinking about how he's probably a big fan of the original and changed his name.

Given how continuity in this franchise usually seems to go, I've just personally been taking a "broad strokes" approach to this whole thing.
Sure these series' might be related officially, but I tend to take it as "the events of series A happened in the same timeline as series B, but not necessarily in the EXACT fashion as we see them in series A".

 

Generally that’s probably the best way, kind of like how beast wars handles it’s connection to g1

 

Yeah, it's an unmanageable mess, but it's given us some fun stuff.

scroll to the section at the end titles TWO GRIMLOCKS? Apparently at some point Adam Beechan clarified that as far as the writers were concerned there were two seperate grimlocks

 

Thanks. I generally got around it by not worrying about it too much. I really like RiD Grimlock a lot and he's very distinct from any other version, so it's probably best he's a new character. I'll just assume he admired the old Grimlock and took the name they way Prime Megatron did with Megatronus.
