No....why don't you go re-read your own post where you said (and as wampa called you out on) that a hero's journey starts when they have a chance to refuse the call. He didn't refuse to go after the droids so you're basically backtracking on what you yourself said. Your argument is invalid. And praytell, what caused Obi-wan to encourage Luke to learn the ways of the force? Oh yeah, the holographic message. Keep reaching dude. Your arguments are full of holes.
No, your own are. The people reaching are the ones trying to say that the hologram and the force projection are poetic.
You couldn't even rebuttal how the holographic message wasn't even a catalyst. You couldn't even explain your position. You went against your own words. And mine are wrong? Either you're just trolling, or you're just arguing just to argue. Well, you keep your wasting time and everyone elses'. I'm going to go do something else. Have fun.
A Hero's Journey This is where the hero receives a call to action. An example can be something that threatens him or his family or a disruption of the hero’s ordinary world. From the image above (Figure Two), we see R2-D2 giving Luke a message from a Princess Leia asking for Obi-wan Kenobi for help. This message immediately disturbs Luke's ordinary world. www.megaessays.com/viewpaper/89352.html Stacey Lee says Luke's journey starts as he "sees the hologram of Princess Leia and is captivated by her image, which causes him to persist in finding out about what it is that brought her image to him, assuming that there is some great adventure behind it" (Lee). The Hero’s Journey and Star Wars The hero’s story typically begins in a relatively normal situation before receiving a call to head off into the unknown. In A New Hope we find Luke living the life of a typical moisture farmer. He dreams of bigger things, but is constantly needed by his Uncle Owen to help with the harvest. #This normalcy comes to a halt when R2-D2 arrives on the Lars’ homestead intent on delivering a message to one Benjamin W. Kenobi. After a run in with a band of Tusken Raiders, we are introduced to Obi-Wan Kenobi, the hero’s mentor. R2-D2’s message serves as Luke’s call to adventure. Yes I did. It's not Leia who calls him to action. He doesn't even go with Obi Wan because of her, he wants to be like his father. Regardless it's still a huge stretch to say there's anything poetic about it. The whole thing started by some one saying she starts his story which is wrong. So then people say, "well his journey starts that way." Which is still wrong, so then you make it so the it starts the hero's journey trope. Even if for the sake of argument that is what starts his heroes journey, that journey ends with the destruction of the Death Star. Stacey Lee is fucking wrong.

Yeah. For Carrie, you know? Oh for fuck’s SAKE. His journey started when he got the projection from Leia. It ended with his projection to help her. Sure that’s not precise to the most minute detail but I truly do not give a fuck. So give it a rest already, you ain’t cute honey. Whatever. Washing my hands, thanks for getting me into the toxicity of this thread like I had literally just griped about. Good on you dude. Welcome to my ignore list.
This post, to me, illustrates how Luke’s hero journey started with Ben and not the hologram. I’ll go so far as to say that it was at Kenobi’s insistence. “You must come with me and learn the way of the force”. Luke said “no”. What convinced Luke to go with Ben was that there was nothing left for Luke after the deaths of his guardians and destruction of the farm. So Luke left to “learn the ways of the force and become a Jedi”- Luke’s words. I don’t recall him mentioning saving the hot chick in the video.
Yeah, but still it doesn't take away from the initial (though accidental) showing of part of the holographic message when he was cleaning R2. It would seem that he was already aware of the rebellion against the Empire, but still didn't know enough about it. And I really don't think Ben would have even suggested anything had that full message not played. As it was stated, Ben was there to watch over Luke was he not? If so, it could be possible that Ben would not have said anything (since he basically had no interaction with Luke up until then) and then we still would not have had Luke even think about it, much less know what he does now.
You know that sick burn would probably have worked better - that is to say at all - if you'd gotten the gif version with actual tears. Anyway, while the projections are not the first and last things Luke sees or does, they do represent the opening and closing of his arc dramatically.
So which projection started his journey? The 1st partial one, or the second full one? And why would his journey start with the projection and not Owen’s initial purchase of the droids? I dunno... I still see Ben as that catalyst. Even after the full video he was determined to stay. His journey started after him not dying with Owen and Beru and Ben willing to take him elsewhere. We’ll have to agree to disagree.
For my money its the first projection. Because without that, buying R2 and C-3PO is just one of the many mundane events in Luke Skywalker's life. Droids are so omnipresent in the Star Wars universe that buying them is about as meaningful as buying a toaster.
Exactly. His eyes were opened to a new world outside of the exciting world of moisture farming. He was so secluded, he hadn't even been to Mos Eisley which was the main spaceport on Tatooine. The first projection planted the seed. The second watered it. Obi Wan nurtured it.
Besides the fact it was a literal call to action. A literal call, I have no idea how it could be any more on the nose than an actual “call.”
