Not to mention the original lacks articulation and proper robot mode proportions.

It's not that bad, I think it's better than the FoC Voyager, not saying it's not without its faults, but the PotP Grimlock looks to be a pretty decent figure.

I have one, just haven't opened it as I am waiting to get the whole team together,as such my opinions are based off reviews andb pictures.

Nitro Zeus? That's an amazing sculp. Far better than POTP Grimlock. I just got the OSKO and it's amazing. I want the TK repaint!

I used to have the FoC mold, and it was atrocious too. but this somehow looks worse because it needs to make even more sacrifices to work in combined mode.

I don't understand, are you saying that Grimlock doesn't look like a dinosaur?

I do agree, I'm just trying to say that given everything the figure has to, robot mode/dino mode/combined mode, something is gonna suffer. Had he and the rest of the Dinobots not had to be combiner I think we can agree they would have been better figures.

In short, it's unfair to compare G1 Grimmy to the PotP version as they both had different philosophies.

I think its completely fair considering there's three and a half decades between them lol. the potp has better articulation and a more dynamic sculpt(in robot mode), but that shouldn't really be something to praise, it should be a given due to advances in technology.
of course stuff is going to suffer for the combined gimmick ordeal, I get that, but I just think it suffers way, way too much for him to look passable in any mode for me.

Me Grimlock no understand the hate! Me Grimlock not perfect but pretty good if me say so myself. In all seriousness, my biggest complaints is the lack of weapons, but I’ve given him TR Voyager Prime’s sword and Cloudburst/Micronus to use. Overall, I can overlook his flaws.

They made a Voyager RiD15 Grimmy? How'd I miss that?

More on topic: Love PotP Grimmy. Looks exactly like his G1 self, both toon and toy-wise. The wide stance in dino-mode doesn't bother me as it just makes him look bigger/beefier to me.

Honestly, the only thing that bothers me about PotP Grimlock/Dinobots is the incorrect sizes. Sludge and Snarl both should be around Grimlock's height and bulk as a voyager, not a deluxe. I've been wondering if you could take the Grimlock Upgrade Kit thighs and add them to Sludge and Snarl instead to get them up to Voyager size? I don't own either yet so I can only guess.

I love POTP Grimlock, I wish he had a sword and a gun but I did give him Titans Return Voyager Optimus' weapons. Anyway what I love most about him is that he just looks so intimidating and powerful, just what I want in a modern Grimlock figure. Even without weapons he still looks like he could wreck cons with just his fists alone let alone needing to use his dino mode due to how beefy he looks. Haven't bothered with combined mode since I don't need combining Dinobots but this is definitely in the top three of my favorite POTP figures currently.

If my understanding is correct, it was a Platinum Edition Generations toy, recoloured from a Japanese exclusive Adventure toy, itself an extensive retool of FoC Grimlock. It does look awesome. Way better than any of the RID toys he got.

I think the dino head of the new one looks better than the kinda cute old one, but that is all that is better. I hate how the gap in the dinosaur's waist and how bad his entire back looks, plus the short toes. Robot mode looks okay, but Hasbro should really have gone with the smokey clear plastic like the original instead of the completely clear plastic. This image alone just makes me not want to buy him. If only Takara had continued to do their own thing then we might have seen some remolding done.

Honest question: if the knees had been painted black like the thighs instead of red (likewise for whatever that is behind Grimlock's head in bot mode + the dino mode neck hinges) wouldn't your eye just take it all together? I look at it now and visually, it all looks filled in to me so I imagine that red standing out not being there would further the cohesiveness of the back. I just really feel more than anything that it's not the mold itself that's the problem but the color scheme. There's a ton of sculpted detail on this figure that's not popping like it should because of the grey used and lack of contrasting colors.
