By the standards of 60's TV. Watch shows from that era, most of them are campy (by today's standards).

Saw episode 1 tonight and It looks promising. Origins of the robot were pretty cool and the special effects for a Netflix show were really good I thought. Definitely looking forward to checking out more.

I was thinking that too. Except I am just going to say it, Enterprise i did it better.

But with that said, it certainly isn't a bad intro. Just not a great one. It seems to be an intro many people will just watch once and skip. I still watch Star Trek's intros everytime I see them.

Okay, so the usual pitfall of gritty reboot has decided that the Robinson family must be dysfunctional. Having Judy and Penny be in the same age bracket is weird and unnecessary. The writers were also clearly fans of The Iron Giant because whats going on with Will and The Robot is very similar. Incesentally the Robot reminds me, a little, of a Geth.

All in all, I'm not sure what to make of the whole thing. Effects are great, general design of everything is cool but characters are just a little all over the shop.

Major West and the chicken are funny though.

I don’t think I’m half way they the 1st episode... and am concluding that this show doesn’t want me to like it.

Must be Netflix working behind the scenes; it’s an expensive show so maybe if people don’t want to watch it then they don’t have to pay for more seasons.

It was pretty good...nothing to write home about.

Robot looking like a Geth is dead on.
    PC reboot changes checklist achieved
Very very predictable story points and it felt very much like the 100 for most of the show.

That said, the ending was satisfying enough that it made the journey worth it.

Bit of a spoiler so I'll hide it for those not far into the episodes who don't want to be spoiled but there is a sneaky little tribute to the original series in a name.
Our not Dr. Smith is named June Harris which is a nod to the names of two of the actors from the original series June Lockhart and Jonathan Harris.

On the subject of Dr. Smith
The actual Dr. Smith she steals the jacket from is Bill Mumy, original Will Robinson. Also Lennier

Yeah, didn't want to say anything, but that 'Theme' is a really messy piece of junk. I had hoped someone would take the other theme and update it without the '90's EXTREME' that the movie did, but it seems they just wanted the hook for the end and the rest is a complete garbage 'doesn't know what it wants to be' deal.

Almost done with it. Good series so far. Love this bit.

    "It's Morse code!"
    "What's he spelling?"
    "F..."
    "Ok.."
    "U.."
"F you? That's his message? This is how your kids talk?"
    "E.."
    "Ok that changes everything..."
    :lol

Oh boy this is a trainwreck...
The Lost in Space was a family sitcom basically with Dr Smith being the unruly/mischievous uncle/grandfather personality (when I watched it as a kid and I did not yet knew the english language, I actually thought he was the kids' grandfather).
    Here:
    -the family is disfunctional
-the are not really "lost in space", just stranded on a planet
    with many other families
which kills the whole "Robinson Crusoe" feel of the setting.
-the kids just cannot act. This show coming from the same company who made Stranger Things, a show heavily built on the (very talented) child actors... well this is disappointing.
    -Dr Smith is
not even Dr Smith... just someone who stole his name.
Furthermore she is almost a psychopath regarding all the things she has done. I am sorry but what is her motivation even? One-upping her sister? They want us to think she is a con-man but she comes off more as an amoral mad scientist. At this point, if the Robinsons killed her it would be totally justified considering how often she endangered them - knowingly.
    -the robot is
an alien killing machine, and there are a LOT of it around. It just rebooted and now for some reason protects Will, but it can go back to "kill all humans" mode anytime.
Furthermore, as people said, it looks NOTHING like any of the previous designs. More like a Geth or something from Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Why even call it Lost in Space when you remove the most iconic character's look?

Lastly just have to ask, what sort of name is Parker Posey? To me that sounds like the name of a Marvel supervillain who poses as a fake Spiderman. Can people now use family names as first names in the USA? Can I call my kid Watson or Sherlock or Washington or Kennedy now as a first name? :D

Edit - found this review on IMDB... :D

    Just watched the first episode.

That was tedious beyond belief. I can't watch 9 more episodes of that. Tell me if it gets better.

To be honest, I only watched the original series in reruns as a kid because there wasn't much science fiction on tv back then. It wasn't great or anything. Tell me if they ever reboot Space: 1999. That was actually a good show.

.......Okay, I am genuinely not sure what the hell to make of all this. I mean, I'm compelled enough to keep watching so there must be something keeping me hooked but for smart people there's an awful lot of dumb decisions being made: looking at you, Judy. Like I'm baffled that Dr. Smith is able to so successfully hornswaggle so many people. She's not exactly David Xanatos, I know sociopaths are good at faking emotions or something but passing herself off as a goddamn psychiatrist is stretching credibility.

Also, Angela, precisely what did you think a small handgun was going to do against the Robot. And what the fuck did she think would happen?

I mean, what the hell is being thought of here?
