It'd be lovely if IDW followed the Image/Kirkman model for collection releases. 6 issues gets a tpb, 12 issues get a HC, 24 issues for an OHC and 48 issues in a compendium, all released within a couple months of the latest issue in the collection. Obviously, there could be some wiggle room on issue count and maybe you omit the 12-issue HC since Walking Dead is a bestselling collection, but that release schedule would be so nice. If @NoiseMaker's math is right, and we're 6 years away from IDW finishing the series in this format, that's insane for a series that's ending in 3 months.

Criminy. I just hope there's enough of us buying these that IDW don't lose interest before finishing the set (I assume this is the TFUK collection problem).

I think another 14 volumes would juuuust fit on one shelf so that would be fine :-D

my opinion SPOILERS AHEAD the idw collection, over time, became my favorite continuity of the transformers despite a few rough spots. i grew up on tf uk and loved it and it's use of the animated movie but (and i do read this continuity via the idw collection hardcovers only) the politics, serialized epic storytelling, world building, characterization, etc. just impressed the heck out of me. however, i will only purchase the idw collection hardcovers-so, i hope idw will continue to collect all tf - related issues before ceasing publication. imo, this run deserves a complete hardcover collection.

It was pretty bad. It was basically Shane McCarthy taking a look at how his OC, who had been divisive at best under his pen, became a big fan favorite under James Roberts’ pen. Then he said, “no, fuck that, this is MY edgelord character!” And he turned Drift back into a mopey, well, edgelord, and the mini series went on about McCarthy’s old tired sermon about how Autobots and Decepticons are the same. Furthermore, he completely ignored that Drift purposely took the fall for the Overlord fiasco just to have Drift angst about being an exile.

Yeah we all cheered when Drift returned to Roberts and MTMTE and the fuck away from McCarthy.

...what's up with the front page story calling this a trade paperback?..i thought all the IDW collection volumes were hardcovers; certainly the linked amazon listing is for a hardcover...

Sudden thought - maybe this is the last Phase Two hardcover.

I reckon we have twelve hardcovers of IDWverse material left, once the remaining LL / OP / Unicron issues are factored in.

Assuming they don't want to keep with Phase Two (hey, they might), they need to draw the line somewhere.

One possibility is the Revolution arc that brought the other Hasbro properties in, though that would look a bit lopsided on the shelf - 8 phase one, 12 phase two, 4 phase three.

The next hardcover I predict will major on Combiner Wars. If they decide Phase Three begins there it'll look nice on the shelf in 2024, three phases of eight volumes.

Combiner Wars did mark the start of Hasbro being a pain in the arse and forcing their product lines more obviously into the comic, so in that sense it's thematically linked with Revolution & a natural breakpoint ;)

When I spoke with John Barber at SDCC I asked if Phase 3 would begin with Revolution. He seemed surprised and responded that they hadn't considered a phase 3 but that Revolution would be a good place for it and that they might consider it. I think phase 2 will continue through the end of MTMTE and the other series as well.

Don't know if this is the place to ask, but how is vol.7 (#28-34 of both series)? I bought 6 a year back which kinda rounded up the whole saga (or so it felt).

Is this where the combiner wars shit starts? And am I going down a rabbit hole?
